O que você fará
A few notes about stained glass (outside of it being incredibly fun)! We will be making an actual suncatcher, not coloring in any glass or using melting beads. This process will entail using tools to break and grind actual glass, then using a soldering iron and chemical to melt metal and bind the piece together. Stained glass is made using solder (a combo of 60% tin and 40% lead), and we will be melting the solder using a very hot iron. Unless you eat directly off of the lead or somehow get it into your bloodstream, lead will not harm you. However, you should NOT take this workshop if you are pregnant, or under 16 years-old. The workshops take place in my home studio that also doubles as an Airbnb apartment. Unfortunately, it is not handicap-accessible, and you must be able to climb a full set of stairs. All that aside... When you arrive, I will have all the tools, supplies, and ambience ready to go! I will explain and demonstrate the use of each tool and step as we move through the suncatcher together - how to cut glass, grind it, foil it, solder it, and ready the piece to display, with a lot of technique and tips to boot. You will leave with something you make from start to finish with my guidance. The whole process takes about 2.5 hours, and all the feedback from my students has been so positive, I wanted to offer it up to people who may not be local to London!
Lucas (And Stacie)
Hello! My name is Stacie Foerster, and I'm the owner/maker of Forest City Stained Glass in London, Ontario. Originally from the US, I taught myself stained glass when I first moved to Canada in 2015 as a way to enjoy time while my paperwork was processed, but I ended up falling in love with the craft, and eventually started my business! Over the last 5 years, I had a permanent booth at one of our historic markets, completed countless commissions, wholesaled to boutique shops around Canada and the US, and finally started hosting an intro workshop out of my studio in March of 2019. The workshops have been a success, and I want to offer this experience to anyone traveling through as a fun experience with a timeless piece of art to show for it! Thanks for your interest!

You don't need to bring anything with you. A friendly reminder that we will be breaking glass and using a hot iron to melt metal and put our suncatcher together, so this is not recommended for kids or those who are pregnant. Wear close-toed shoes and be ready to have fun!
