O que você fará

HELP OUR MICRO-BUSINESS RECOVER FROM THE FIRES

You leave the city behind and travel through the back roads of the NSW Southern Highlands. As you are driven along a gravel road you pass through a sandstone tunnel and stop at a lookout.

Then you drop 500 meters into the river valley as you travel through Nattai National Park and your Guide tells you about the native trees, animals and local legends.

You are taken to your private site by the river and, as it is a micro-group Adventure for just one or two, you are then left to experience living by a sparkling stream with no-one else around. You are staying off-grid in a solar powered quirky retro caravan and exploring the valley or sitting by the stream.

You have a long hot completely private outside shower with a stunning outlook. You put together the semi-prepared menu and cook on the BBQ overlooking the stream.

You experience what it is like breath pure fresh air, to hear nothing but the sounds of nature and to see nothing but the sky full of stars.

On the last day of your Adventure you see how I live off the grid and how my property mostly survived the bush fires, what I had put in place in preparation that turns my cabin into a ‘water bubble’ in the face of an ember attack or fire front.

You are driven by your Guide in an off road vehicle on the reverse journey out of the hidden valley back to Mittagong Station

I survived the NSW Bush Fires staying in place at my home in the middle of a National Park. I have been Custodian of my 125-acre property, completely surrounded by National Parks, for over 20 years. During that time, I have been trained as a Wildlife Rescue Officer, led the local Landcare Bush Regeneration Group and undertaken stream water testing for Sydney Water Catchment Authority. I am passionate about the outdoors, back to nature, reforestation, living off-grid, self-sufficiency, renewable power and a sustainable approach to living. I am knowledgeable about local history and local Aboriginal dreamtime stories. I monitor endangered species in my area, in particular the Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby and the Glossy Cockatoo. I know about local native trees, wildlife and hiking trails. In my youth I completed full outdoor 'Scout' training

Calvin is the richest man on earth as he has the one commodity that everyone I know wishes they had more of: TIME. My experience was sensational. 10/10 I never thought I would learn so much about Kurrajongs, these are fire resistant Australian native trees and Calvin is the world expert on them. EVERYTHING, the food, the accommodation, the fact he picked me up from the train station, the fact that his beautiful dog Kelly kept me company. I can only say positive things about this experience. I cannot wait to go back with my young son. THANK YOU Calvin, you are indeed rich beyond measure. See you soon.

People talk of mindfulness, disconnecting from wifi, sustainable living and appreciating trees and nature. This adventure is all that and more. Calvin the host personalised our adventure from letting us chose our pick up and drop off time, to personal food and drink preferences, to thinking of every detail for a relaxing and unique stay. Think “glamping” where all your bedding, toiletries, towels etc are provided for. There is no need to pack any food, as meals all provided, and all treats too, from sweet to savoury. We saw emus, goannas, kangaroos and many birds and learnt about Calvin’s, (and now our), love of the Karrajong native tree. We saw how Calvin survived the recent fires and floods and how he lives a sustainable existence. He takes you in his four wheel drive, and it is only accessible through this adventure. The car ride is bumpy and fun and the water is clean and swim able and the stars shine brightly each night. You have complete privacy too, so the outdoor toilet and shower adds to the fun and ambience! If any part of this captures your sense of what a holiday can and should be, book now and you will be delighted. Turn off your phones, take off your watches and get back in touch with nature and a best friend and share this experience soon!

What a unique and wonderful experience! I was lucky enough to be the only person on this adventure although the maximum booking is only for 2 people. I fell absolutely in love with this beautiful hidden valley. Calvin, my guide, was delightful and made me feel so comfortable and relaxed with him, and his passion for the Australian bush and living sustainably is contagious! The 4wd down into the valley is glorious and we stopped whenever I wanted to pause or take a photo. (The light is amazing especially late afternoon). There is a river walk, completely private, where the landscape keeps changing and there are some huge old tree’s and plenty of wildlife.( I saw mainly wallaby’s and kangaroos). I also spent a lot of time just in or near the retro caravan which is so cute, comfortable and cosy with a myriad of little cupboards that have not only a great selection of food, (food preferences are also taken into consideration, I’m gluten free so that was great!) but everything you could possibly need in case you forgot like sunscreen, toothbrush etc as well as games and books. The site is completely private and so well laid out which chairs for quiet river views or reading a book in the sun, I even saw a turtle in the water below me. The outdoor shower was fun and the composting toilet, well screened and I actually really liked it! As well as the stovetop in the caravan there’s a barbeque and a fire under the stars was a highlight ( I noticed there’s also marshmallows and milo). Each activity was thoughtfully planned, and Calvin took the time to focus on areas where I had questions and wanted to know more. As I was alone I really enjoyed the company of Calvin’s kelpie Kelly, who did a few walks with me and hung out with me in the sun. I couldn’t recommend this adventure more highly especially to people who want to experience true tranquillity and ‘bathe’ in nature. When I came back to “civilisation”, my phone starting pinging and I wanted to turn around and go back! If you do this you take a part of the valley with you, I will be returning! Thanks Calvin!
