O que você fará
We’ll meet for my Life of a Chalkstream talk over morning coffee at The Peat Spade in Longstock before heading off for a trip around my favourite parts of the River Test. The first stop will be the Leckford eel traps which we have special permission to visit. Then it is on to Wherwell Priory to examine the last remnants of water meadows before we head down the valley to the famous Oakley beat at Mottisfont Abbey, the birthplace of dry fly fishing. Here National Trust Neil Swift river keeper will demonstrate weed cutting, show us the great restoration and conservation work they are carrying out on this famous river, ending with the chance to step inside Halford’s famous Oakley Hut. It will be the height of summer when the valley looks at its most glorious and we’ll end up back at The Peat Spade for a drink and late lunch.
This is an opportunity to join me, Simon Cooper, best selling nature writer and professional flyfishing guide, visitingt some of the iconic chalkstream locations, see traditional weed cutting in action, examine what is left of the historic water meadows and take a look into the secret life of a chalkstream.
