O que você fará

Plan to arrive at about noon. I'll supply dinnerware, napkins, iced tea, cold well water and snacks. Bring your picnic for an outdoor meal on the deck of our cozy cottage, surrounded by forests, near the shores of the lake.

At 1PM, we'll head out to the bee yard (just 1km away), overlooking rolling fields and forests full of wildflowers (and ripe wild raspberries if the timing is right!). We can walk there through forests and fields, or drive over if you prefer. We'll take a few moments to learn the basics of beekeeing - I'll have some material to help you understand how it works.

We'll put on the full protected bee suit and inspect the hives. We'll open one or more of them up, see how much honey they're gathering, look for the queen (she's not always easy to find!), identify the drones, see the eggs...

We'll take a sample of the freshest honey possible, right out of the hive and bring it in for a taste test - comparing it to some Mexican "jungle honey" I have on hand.

By 3PM, we should be wrapping up at the bee yard.

We then return to the cottage, and if you're keen, you can take a refreshing swim in the lake (bring a swimsuit and a towel).

I will recommend restaurants, points of interest and even overnight lodgings for your trip.

Conheça seu anfitrião, Marc

I started beekeeping in 1992. I took a break from 1998 to 2015 when I went overseas (Yucatan, Galapagos, Paris, Nairobi) working on sustainable forestry / nature conservation projects. I took up beekeeping again upon my return to Canada. It's a fascinating hobby and I'm always very happy to share it with interested friends and guests, hoping that one day, they might take it up themselves. The bees are kept near the shore of a beautiful lake in the Gatineau hills - a place I've been coming to all my life and where I have multi-generational family roots. Come for a visit, we'll also have a tasty lunch and if you feel like it, we'll finish the day with a swim in the crystal clear waters of the lake.
