O que você fará

The Woolly Egg Ranch is a historic family farm located just a few miles north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge on your way to Muir Woods. During your visit, we’ll put on beekeeping gear, open hives and learn about beekeeping basics.
We’ll start the visit with a short farm orientation and learn the basics of beekeeping safety and etiquette before each visitor puts on protective gear. Then Jennifer will open hives, pull out frames of comb and show you what the bees are doing based on each season. For those feeling brave, you can even hold a frame of comb in your hands while you watch the bees busy at work. Jennifer will share bee stories, tell you how these amazing animals live and work, and if we’re lucky you’ll even spot the queen among all those worker bees.
Ordinarily we'd finish the experience by sampling honey from different seasons and locations around the Bay Area, but even in COVID times we will have honey, fresh eggs, and seasonal preserves for you to buy to take home with you. Once you've booked your experience you'll receive an email with instructions on how to prepare for a visit with bees and how to be sure you can be COVID-safe during your visit to the Woolly Egg Ranch.
Other things to note
Perhaps your curiosity of bees is tinged by a fear of getting stung. You’re not alone! Jennifer is an expert in leading people on beekeeping adventures, and she puts your comfort and safety first. She’ll outfit you with all you need and orient you so you can experience beekeeping minus the stings.

Onde você estará

The Woolly Egg Ranch is a fifth generation farm in a coastal valley, surrounded by forest and national parks on the way to Tennessee Valley Beach. We raise chickens and ducks to provide eggs to local markets in Marin, plus we have a flock of sheep and alpacas Bernadette and Zeta who graze the hills above the farm. The hills and surrounding areas provide special honey varietals from plants found only along the coast of California.

Our family booked a private event to learn more about beekeeping and we couldn't have had a better experience! She was so knowledgeable and accommodating to our young-ish children. We got to look into the hives and learn how the hives work and taste honey! We even got to buy fresh eggs, honey and visit and feed some of the farm animals. We even had fun herding some of the animals back to their proper areas. So much fun. A great Saturday was had! Thank you Jennifer!

Jennifer is thorough and thoughtful to ensure everyone knew what to expect and how to behave around the bees. She is very knowledgeable about her bees and has a passion to share her knowledge with others. I wasn’t sure what to expect besides not wanting to be stung. Which apparently wasn’t a concern at all if you follow directions and remain calm. At the end of the experience, I found myself to be extra calm and relaxed. Overall, great experience.

Beekeeping was so much fun! After arriving, we learned a little about the area and farm and were shown how to handle the frames that held the combs of honey and bees. Walking over to the bee boxes after putting on our hats and veils, we got a close up view as the brand new bees wiggled their way out of their cocoons and the older bees filled empty combs with nectar. It was an amazing experience and I'd highly recommend it!

This was a lot of fun! We were a little nervous to be around bees at first, but Jennifer is an amazing host who explained all about beekeeping which inspired confidence in us to closely observe the bees. Learned a few things about bees and sampled some amazing honey during this pretty excellent experience.

Awesome experience for me, my husband, and our moms during a family visit/trip. Jennifer is knowledgeable, passionate, and an amazing experience host. She inspired me to go learn even more about bees and how important these creatures are to our environment. I'd strongly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a fun and educational activity.

What a treat to be able to work with a professional beekeeper and learn all about bees! Jennifer did an amazing job with ensuring everyone's safety while also implementing fun! While you may seem hesitant at first, by the end of the experience, Jennifer made sure everyone had held a frame of bees with their bare hands! It was so cool! We even go to taste the honey right off the frame! You can also purchase handmade/homemade good from the farm owners! Jennifer is so kind, sweet, very knowledgeable, and inspired us all to Save The Bees!!!
