O que você fará

The cultural heritage built by the Dominican religious order will impress you with the majesty of its convents and temples, in which elements of the European and Mesoamerican cultures are fused.

During this experience we will visit the towns of Yanhuitlan, Tesposcolula and Tamazulapam del Progreso, which are part of what is called The Mixtec Route.

9:00 am
We´ll meet in downtown Oaxaca to begin our journey to Santo Domingo Yanhuitlán (1:20 hr drive / 100 km).

Our first stop will be at the Santo Domingo de Guzmán church where you´ll learn about the architectonic techniques used, visit the interior of the church, and see its historical tubular organ. Then, we´ll visit the ex-convent, which is now the regional museum, and walk on it´s ancient halls, enter the old rooms, and visit the art exhibits.

Later, we´ll drive to Teposcolula to visit the temple of San Pedro y San Pablo and its open chapel, the largest in Latin America. Here, you´ll also learn about the tecniques used during its construction.

Our third stop will be in Tamazulapam del Progreso to visit the beautiful temple of Santa María de la Natividad where its two tubular organs stand out: a monumental and a processional one.

We´ll finish the day off with a visit to the sulfurous springs of Tamazulapam for a cool swim, to relax and refresh.

Drive back to Oaxaca arriving at 6 pm.

I was born and raised in Oaxaca. I have traveled to many places within the state and I love to share my travel knowledge and experiences with others. This will be an amazing cultural and architectonic experience. My friend Rolando, who is an architect, will come to explain the different structures and building techniques that were used to build the temples of Yanhuitlan, Teposcolula and Tamazulapam. Don't miss out on this wonderful experience. We would love to share it with you!

I have lived abroad (in the USA) during my college years and I have also traveled to several countries. On my travels, I have experienced the need of local experts who can show you those "hidden gems", the sites that are off the beaten path in unique ways.

Ivan and Rolando were so much fun to be with ; it was a great day that we spent together. The ride in the countryside was beautiful and we visited 3 churches on the ruta Mixteca. Rolando is an architect so he was able to explain many important details of both history and architecture that really brought it alive and made the tour very interesting. Between these details and the conversation we had I felt like I had a much better understanding of the culture of Mexico both ancient and modern. It was an experience I certainly never would have had without their tour. But really, the best thing was hanging out with Ivan and Rolando because they were so friendly, smart and engaging , it was very special.
