O que você fará

We'll begin with coffee and croissant at the best (in my opinion) French bakery in town. We'll then set off on our walking tour of some of the most beautiful streets, squares, & public art of the Plateau Mont-Royal so you can get some of those quintessentially-Montreal photos. You'll learn about how the city of Montreal (and later this neighbourhood) came into existence and then how it has evolved with wave after wave of migrants. We will take a along Boulevard Saint-Laurent - "The Main" - designated a National Historic Site of Canada due to its significance in our immigration history. Along the way we will check out some of the famous murals that give the street its character, including that of the Plateau's most-famous former resident, Leonard Cohen. We'll sample some of the food that the city is most famous for: poutine, bagels, and smoked meat - and you'll learn about how these foods became such an integral part of the identity of this city. Our last treat before you explode from too much food will be sweet European treat in the heart of Little Portugal before our experience ends with a walk down the vibrant Avenue du Mont-Royal - the beating heart of the Plateau.

I work as a tour director all across Canada. I'm an immigrant to Canada, from New Zealand. I fell in love with Montreal, its people, its food, and its incredible neighbourhoods 13 years ago and made it my home. I worked in the restaurant & bar industry for 15 years of my life, but most recently have been leading motorcoach tours all across Canada and back in NZ. You could say that I know more about Montreal, Quebec, and Canada than the average Kiwi - more than the average Canadian, in fact! I spent 10 yrs living in the vibrant Plateau neighbourhood and moved to the Village about a year ago. These are the 'hoods I'll be showcasing for you!

Onde você estará

We will begin and end our tour at a Métro (subway) station and walk through the Plateau, connecting Sherbrooke and Mont-Royal stations. We will visit my favourite French-style bakery, three famous 'institutions' on Boulevard Saint-Laurent, as well as a Portuguese pâtissérie.

I had a great time and the perfect start to my stay in Montreal with Scott. We touched many topics (region, history, people, local life, politics, etc.) And Scott provided excellent knowledge and insights. Logistics were perfect from meeting point to end of the tour and he gave me further recommendations for my stay. I enjoyed the tour and the food very very much!

This is a fantastic tour of a dynamic neighbourhood in Montreal, Le Plateau. Scott's a legit, pro tour guide. He'll immerse you in Montreal's cultural history and you get to taste the culinary contributions of Montreal's ethnic communities along the way. I really enjoyed learning about Montreal's social history and its influence on Canada's immigration history. I learned things about Montreal that makes a lot of sense to me now, such as why the houses have exterior stairways to 2nd floor entrances, why the area is called Le Plateau, why you don't need a schmear for a Montreal bagel, and the reasons why you find such a diverse range of ethnic enclaves along Ave St. Laurent! The snack stops along the way invigorate the walking tour - that Portuguese egg custard (nata), freshly out of the oven, all warm and caramelized ... was heaven! I will definitely return to Ave St. Laurent to explore its food venues and their menus further!

Scott was a fantastic host with a lot of knowledge of the local area, particularly cool architecture and the locations of some great murals. He knew a lot about the history of the region and was able to share a lot of wonderful foodie locations. Scott is a genuinely nice and easy going person and was extremely helpful in giving me advice for my further adventuring through Montreal. I highly recommend this tour to all!
