O que você fará

1. We will meet at Monument Metro station where the tour starts.

2. Then we’ll head down Grey Street (often voted one of the most beautiful streets in Britain), passed the Theatre Royal.

3. We hit our first bridge as we cross the The High Level Bridge (designed by Robert Stephenson - the “Father of Railways”).

4. From there we’ll follow the Gateshead side of the Tyne River up to The Sage and the Tyne Bridge (which matches the Sydney Harbour Bridge).

5. After this we loop down onto the river down old alleyways coming out in view of the Millennium Bridge (‘The Winking Eye’).

6. From the Millenium Bridge we'll head back along the Newcastle side of the river and then underneath the Tyne Bridge back up to Monument to finish the tour.

*If we’re lucky, we’ll see the Kittywakes nesting on The Tyne Bridge (the most inland Kittywake colony in the world - they make a tremendous amount of noise in breeding season).

*This tour aims to take in as many of the key historical sites of the centre of the city including its 7 different bridges (2 which move), The Sage Concert Venue (locally known as ‘The Slug’) The Baltic (former flour mill) and the Newcastle Quayside.

I’ve been a runner and History teacher in Newcastle for the past 10 years. Newcastle is a fabulous city with dramatic views and a unique history.

Having lived in Newcastle since 2005, I've been grabbing every opportunity to learn about the cool stories and background of the unique corners of the city. Much of this has been done by running and cycling around. Every time I go out I discover new things. I love to combine running with History and friends can only take so much!

Great communication ahead of time. Killian was happy to adapt the tour as I preferred a more leisurely experience. He was on time and engaging from the outset. Apart from the history -facts, figures, dates and so on, he had plenty of anecdotal stories and quirky details that really bought Newcastle to life for me. and provided an afternoon's tour I could never have put together myself. I really recommend him to you and don't be put off by the running, that really is just an option. Ours was strictly walking!

The tour went pretty alright considering a rainy night during winter. Had some good information from Killian on the history of Newcastle itself. Definitely worth the time! Do pack in your running kit as they'll be some cardio involved.
