Eat at hidden restaurants and see local temples and shrines

There are more than 10 Michelin-rated restaurants in Kagurazaka. Politicians and celebrities come to eat here, but the best shops are hidden from the main street, so the place is very difficult to figure out, and most menus are only in Japanese. Many restaurants in Kagurazaka are very closed off and do not advertise at all. They are already known to gourmets in the area and do not want more customers, as they feel it will deteriorate their quality. They tend to be more expensive—2,000 to 5,000 JPY for lunch—but have no trouble filling their limited seating. Most good restaurants in Kagurazaka are hard to find even for Japanese people. While guiding you around the hot spots of Kagurazaka, I will take you to lunch and dessert. We can go to a first-class sushi shop, a very good quality izakaya—Japanese-style pub—(night time only) or anything else you might have heard about and want to see. I will guide you to high-quality food. After or in between eating, I will also show you famous shrines, temples, and local landmarks. Please let me know if you'd rather do dinner in Kagurazaka. The town transforms into a different world as the sun sets, and I know all the best places.

I used to be a writer, but now I generally take it easy (though I still sometimes blog at Foodies Journey In Tokyo).

I am food lover and I wrote about food , so I have lived in the Kagurazaka neighborhood for over 10 years. I have traveled all over the world and eaten all sorts of delicious local foods, and I love to interact with people from other countries. In my travels, I have had really delicious meals in places I could only have visited with local people, and I would like to do the same for others. Let me help make your trip a wonderful one by showing you amazing Japanese food.

Kaoru knows all the great spots! I experienced kaiseki and it was wonderful! The food was not only delicious, but also a work of art! Kaoru is also very easy to connect with and talk to. She also took the group around to see all the parts of town I would have never found myself...and included a little story and history of places as we walked around. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful time with Kaoru on the tour - she took us for amazing Kobe beef and then for a fantastic soba meal which was a whole new experience for us. We would never have found any of these top class places on our own. Kaoru was a very warm, generous, knowledgeable and patient host and we highly recommended her tour.

What a wonderful way to spend a few hours! We were immediately comfortable with Kaoru, and when she learned my son was studying Japanese, she immediately encouraged him to practice with her. She introduced us to a few special shops along our walk, and we had the most delicious lunch at a spot we would never have discovered otherwise. Kaoru’s writer skills translate directly to storytelling skills. Our conversation never lagged as we shared great exchanges re: local culture and our experiences in Tokyo thus far. You’re certain to have a wonderful time with Kaoru - enjoy!

Kaoru knew all the good spots for food, we probably never would have found some of the places she brought us to on our own!

We had a really memorable time meandering about Kagurazaka with Kaoru. The meet up place is easy to find if you follow her instructions. We chose a bbq wagyu beef place for lunch and it was awesome and of high quality! After lunch, Kaoru brought us through many quaint lanes with vintage shops, dessert shops etc, culminating in a unique Melon cafe with delicious desserts! Kaoru’s passion for food really shines through; she’s a true connoisseur not only of Japanese food but also international food! This tour is good for those who don’t mind paying a premium for top quality food in a place not so accessible to tourists.
