O que você fará

Discover the incredible hidden and forgotten culture, history and ecology of this special place in a gentle guided adventure over 2.5-3 hours, complete with wild tea tasting.

We'll explore the woods and trails finding ruins from centuries past, plants and trees and their folklore, creatures great and small, and plenty of hidden gems and untold stories along the way.

We'll discover kings, spirits, fairy folk, witches and highwaymen - and of course it wouldn't be complete without resting with a cup of freshly-brewed foraged wild tea... and perhaps a Gaelic song or two.

Suitable for all ages.

I am a mountain lover and quiet explorer. I've been sharing my love and knowledge of the history, ecology and culture of this area of the Scottish Highlands for the past four years, creating walking trails, leading short walks, and hosting a 'Highland Tea Chest' foraged drinks stall at events.

Walking the mountains here led me to begin learning Scottish Gaelic, which in turn opened up a whole world of stories and songs linked to places and communities, some of which I share during the walks.

The walks share my interest in finding forgotten stories and narratives in a place, and exploring hidden places in our amazing local landscape.

I am currently working towards my Hill & Moorland Leader qualification, and hold an Outdoor Emergency First Aid qualification (2020).

Onde você estará

The walk starts from Aviemore, and is around 2 miles (3km) long. We go along little-known, narrow woodland footpaths which are uneven underfoot (tree roots, mud, rocks) as well as wider, well-surfaced trails. A reasonable level of fitness is required, though we do go slowly.

It is not suitable for prams or wheelchairs; however I can adapt the route of the walk to make it fully accessible. Please let me know in advance.

I booked this walk for my husband and his parents who are 81 and 75. We all really enjoyed it and it was a great way to see and find out more about the ecology, history and folklore of the area. My husband thought it might be a bit hippy, mystic but Sarah was very warm, friendly and knowledgeable and not a bit wacky! We loved finding out more about the trees, fungi and history of the area and the tea was remarkably tasty. I would highly recommend this walk to anyone who is in the area as it has something for everyone and is suitable for all ages and levels of fitness.

Sarah is absolutely fantastic!!! She met with myself and my family today, being the day after my wedding, and even made us a little wedding gift of Rowan berries soaked in gin. We were told wonderful, captivating folk stories of thousands of years passed, and even very recent events in history. It was absolutely fascinating for those who love the history of the Highlands. Sarah is very knowledgeable about local flora and fauna, and the local trees. It was a perfect way to relax the day after our Highland wedding. Thanks so much!

If you do any activity off the beaten track in the highlands, this MUST be it! We thoroughly enjoyed the walk with Sarah. Her knowledge is in depth and she immediately created a friendly, ‘questions welcome’ environment. The tea was delicious, and we even learnt about foraging for tasty mushrooms - which we did, and then had for breakfast the next day! You can immediately feel Sarah’s passion for the topic(s), and we’ve been inspired to find out more about woodland, foraging and folklore in our local area.
