O que você fará

I take you to a few villages high up in the mountains near Sapa. During this trek, we will meet the Hmong minority and have stunning views on top of the Muong Hoa Valley.

We start the trek from Sapa and take a small path into the mountains. In the first part of this route, we will be walking quite a steep uphill through the forest. On the way, we pass some local houses, and below us, we can see the town of Sapa.

When you get higher up in the mountains, the terrain will get flatter, and you can see a new valley with forest and grasslands where you can see grazing horses. From here, we walk to a small village called Sa Seng. Here we can have lunch with a local Hmong family.

From Sa Seng, we slowly descend to Hang Da village. From here, we will have stunning views on the Muong Hoa (Green Valley) with its ricefields. From Hang Da, we descend to Giang Ta Chai. A village was also inhabited by the Hmong ethnic minority (my ethnic group). During the trek, I will explain to you everything about my culture. In Giang Ta Chai, transport will be waiting for us to bring us back to Sapa.

Overall the trek seemed similar to a lot of other options out there. We had a female guide who was kind and found us easily, but didn't speak much English so it was mostly just the trekking and not a lot of learning about the culture. However, what made this a great experience was our interactions with Sinh! He offered to help us coordinate transportation between Sapa and Hanoi, was able to arrange things very last minute with great attention to detail, and was flexible when we had things come up. Sinh really made our time in Sapa easy and fun, and can't recommend him highly enough!

I went on this hike back in early November, with Sinh's sister, Bo. The trip was absolutely incredible! It ended up being a private tour, and my friend and i really lucked out because we hadnt gotten a chance to eat before the trip. Bo took us to a local food spot and it was some of the BEST food i had had the whole trip! The first hour of the hike is very steep uphill. We went when it was dry, but i imagine it would be very difficult after it had rained. Bo took us to view point after view point, twisting and turning through secluded flower fields and hillsides. We often ran into wild cows and water buffalo, creating an almost surreal experience. Ive hiked all over the US and Europe, and this was one of the best view worthy hikes ive been on.

This was a very unique experience! The weather was rainy and cloudy, so unfortunately, we didn't see much of the fields while we were up on the mountain, but it still was magical. The clouds broke on our way down the mountain and we were able to see the rice fields then. For me, it was a really different landscape than I'm used to, and so I won't forget this hike! A few things to note though: 1. Wear good shoes, thick socks and long pants to protect against leeches when it's raining! 2. Eat some Pepto Bismol ahead of the meal or bring your own. I got a little sick from the food (but that happens from local foods) 3. Be prepared for going steeply downhill. Even when you're walking down the road, it can be slippery after it rains. Shoes with good grips and a walking stick would be helpful! 4. Some of the village women walked with us down the trail and wanted to sell goods... Just know they will linger around you a bit. 5. We took a taxi to cross over the mountain roads when the hike through the villages was over - it's a very bumpy and narrow road, so be prepared for that too if you don't like getting jostled around.

He sent his sister Chu for us. Her english is good enough for the tour. She is cute, nice and friendly. She reminded us about the villagers who sell things to the tourists(some villagers can guilt trip you if you don’t buy their things). She asked us buy only when we really want. It was a 12km hike in the rain. But we had some fun. She was patience waiting for us when we walked slowly. Didn’t rush anything. Overall, even though it’s a bit scary for me to climb up the muddy uphill at the start, I had a good experience with this hike. Thank you. O chao 🙏🏼 (that s what Chu taught me)
