O que você fará

Note: This experience can be scheduled anytime between 9am to 3pm in the winter. This means latest by 6:00PM we will back in Agra.
On your next trip to Agra, consider going on a government licensed and operated river safari on the Chambal River (1 hour drive from Agra) with me as your naturalist. The Chambal River Safari is no ordinary safari, you're going on a safari (motor boats and life jackets) on one of India's cleanest rivers. During the safari you may spot: Gharials (critically endangered long snout crocodiles), Indian marsh crocodile, 8 species of turtles, several species of rare and migratory birds, hyenas, jackals, jungle cats and the Indian River Dolphin.
This tour runs in the winter only (Oct to Mid march /April). May to Sept is too hot and then the sanctuary closes for the monsoon season. In peak winter (dec-jan) we will depart Agra depending on the fog conditions on the highway and when the weather is nice and sunny for visibility on the river. I am from Agra but have lived in Himalayas, Germany, NYC, D.C., Dubai and Singapore. In 2014, I volunteered with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) in South India. Since 2015, I've been leading and organizing wildlife tours across India and the Chambal River was one of my first organized tours. I know the river like the back of my hand and have deep knowledge of the local and migratory wildlife & excellent local contacts.

Onde você estará

The Chambal River Safari is one hour away from Agra by car in either Dholpur (Madhya Pradesh) or Bah (Uttar Pradesh). Most people visiting Agra don't know about this place because it is not on the tourist map and also because there is not much information about going this experience on and off line. The river safari is for 2 hours and the total time taken is 5-6 hours (including the commute to and from Agra)

This was a truly unique and incredible experience! Kunal has incredible knowledge about the Chambal River, the wildlife, and history. He is an expert at spotting wildlife, has a great pair of binoculars you can use, and even shared his pictures with me at the end. Kunal is a natural conversationalist and really made me feel comfortable as a solo traveler. His communication regarding the whole trip was phenomenal. Would 100% highly recommend this as a once in a lifetime experience when visiting Agra.

This experience was the highlight of our trip to India so far! Kunal is knowledgeable and super passionate about nature. We even shared some photography tips. The experience itself is mind blowing and the Chambal river is magical full of animals we never saw before. Highly recommended. If you are in Agra for more than 1 day, build some time for this: it'll make your trip so much more interesting!!!

What a host! Kunal is a passionate conservationist with an excellent knowledge of the animals that live in and around the river. His thoughtful presentation of the river safari does him credit and my family and I can’t recommend this tour highly enough.

Kunal. Chambol River Safari, Agra 5 STARS all the way round. Highly recommended. Kunal knows the local wildlife and geology. He is extremely intelligent, professional and insightful...but best of all, he is easy to talk with and I came away feeling that I had made a new friend. Kunal carries a great pair of binoculars and is expert with his camera/telescopic lens. We watched a beautiful fox scramble along the rocks and a rare species of eagle take flight. There were huge soft-shelled and hard-shelled turtles, egrets, cranes, painted storks, terns, owlets, a monitor lizard, long-shouted crocodiles, banded geese, herons, kingfishers. There was a large flock of Mongolian ducks that fly over the Himalayan’s (20,000 feet) each year during their migration. Every moment was a treasure. If you have the chance, take one of his tours.

This river safari was beyond my imagination! It definitely will be THE highlight of my India trip. Thanks to Kunal, I had a rare opportunity to learn more about the country, besides rich culture, large population, different religious beliefs, animals on the roads, vegetable free markets... Through this unique experience, I also learned people like Kunal and the captains who love nature and care about the well-being of wild animals. They are so passionate about what they are doing. With regard to this safari per se, it’s fantastic. Starting from the chat over Airbnb, Kunal was always considerate. It’s the first time I had a chance to see those rare birds, turtles, crocodiles, so closely. Hopefully, their habitat will not be destroyed. The view on the river was so different from that on the street. Here, there’s no hustle and bustle, instead, people can see how birds, crocodiles and turtles enjoying their lives. Time slows down. Couple of days before the safari started, it rained, Kunal suggested a good timing for this experience. Our dear friends were desperate for sunshine :-) For people who hesitate to join Kunal out of safety reason, well, based on my experience, the safari was safe. Also, there were people washing clothes or playing with water smt when we were on the safari. Besides Kunal, there were also seasoned captains, who knew nearly every detail about the river and our wild friends. Most importantly, thanks to the well-preserved natural environment, creatures in there can form their own ecosystem. Two thumbs up for this water safari and for environment/habitat protection. I’d like to share my river safari experience with all my friends. And strongly recommend them to also experience this special safari when they visit Agra.
