O que você fará
This public experience is given in English. Private group tours in English or Spanish are available. Queer History at Historic Center Landmarks & Gay Bar Row In this part, Part II of the Gay History experience, we will learn about Mexico's LGBT history as it developed after the clash of East & West, when the Aztecs met the Spaniards, 500 years ago. You will see the Inquisition's burning grounds for sodomites; a Diego Rivera mural at Alameda park where men had fun under the cover of night, the only openly LGBT monument in town & the subway's gayest station. By the Juárez plaza we will learn of García-Lorca's frustrated visit to Mexico, the Holocaust & of a Mexican diplomat who rescued thousands from the Nazis. In Chinatown we will understand the introduction of drugs into the LGBT community & discover the life of a great American gay writer in Mexico while in a centenary cantina. At the Convent of San Francisco we will talk about the only known escapee from the Inquisition & be appalled by the French pastries' inheritance. We will see the shoe styles worn at the cross-dressing ball of "Those 41" in 1901 & stroll past the office of Dr. Fagg above the first porn cinema. Before going to Gay Bar Row & the Mariachi plaza, we will see the main cruising street & alley, learn about the bath circuit, the Army's LGBT policy & porn censorship while discovering amazing gay art.
For decades as a hobby & then as a professional activity, I have researched & shared the history of diversity that has been forgotten, left hidden or in the closet for most of its parts to help advance the fight for equality. I have earned my National Tour Guide License & also a Hosting Diploma by Walt Disney University in Florida. My curated & focused walks showcase Women's, Indigenous, LGBT, Jewish, US American & other diverse sides of history in Mexico at its relevant sites. I thrive to show our vast history, arts & traditions; from Mexico before Mexico & its founding in 1325 A.D., to date; not in a boring way but in one that I expect may amuse you. I share the stories from the diverse communities that shaped us at places where it happened. Malinche, Luis Carvajal, Sor Juana, Salvador Novo, Frida Kahlo & Robert Brady are part of it.
