O que você fará
We will be exploring like locals! We'll start out early (6 am) and meet up at Pedro Gil light rail train station. From there, we'll take the light rail to 5th Avenue station (10 stops away) for you to experience what it's like to travel via train in Manila! We will then take the tricycle (another local form of public transportation) and do some walking to get to Banawe Street (the lesser-known Chinatown of Manila!) and have breakfast there. After breakfast, we will commute (either via jeepney or via public van) to Quiapo and see Quiapo Church. More importantly, though, we will explore the various stalls around the church which sell folk medicine and various religious merchandise. We will then visit SM Quiapo, the oldest SM mall in the country (note: SM is the biggest mall operator in the country). Before having lunch at what is known to be the oldest restaurant in the country (New Toho Food Center), we will quickly check out the street market in Rizal Avenue. After lunch, we will explore Chinatown (the well-known one!) on foot, checking out the smaller streets in the vicinity and two popular churches along the way (Santa Cruz Church and Binondo Church). We will then go on another jeepney ride back to Pedro Gil station, where we can cap off the day by having Halo-Halo at Chowking, a popular fast food restaurant chain in the Philippines.
I'm a medical student from Manila who loves going on adventures! I have lived in three different countries (Canada, Japan, and the Philippines) and have worked in various fields (as a researcher, an English teacher, and as a human resources manager). In the past few years, I have visited cities such as Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Yogyakarta, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, Taipei, Hualien, Kaohsiung, Busan, etc. and have always planned out my own itineraries, trying to maximize my experience at each new place I visit. In the past, I have also planned out numerous itineraries for exploring Manila for some of my visiting friends, and everyone had an awesome time in all of our explorations together! Having lived in Manila for 20 years, I am definitely an expert of all things Manila (Metro Manila).
