Sunny, small, 2nd-floor private room, w/separate entrance, shared bath although mostly yours, small fridge, conveniently located in Portland's East End, close to restaurants, microbreweries, distilleries, Portland Trails, and the beach. Healthy walking distance to Old Port and downtown.

Usually a lazy bones, my dog becomes Cujo when people arrive. Your pooch is welcome here, provided it is gentle with my grumpy senior cat.

O espaço
* YOUR ROOM: A small southern facing room on the second floor of an old, modest, and incredibly charming ~1870 New Englander home, cozy with a comfy full bed, small desk, dresser, small fridge and single coffee machine. Low ceilings! (6'6" see pictures) TV, wifi, basic cable and AppleTV access. I provide clean crisp sheets, a duvet, quilt or blanket, and towels. For the five days in summer where Maine goes through its heatwave, AC unit for the room. The only room in the house with an AC unit!

* POTENTIAL FOR NOISE (not usually an issue): While I have had no complaints so far, be aware that the room faces the street. With my immediate uphill neighbors who run a business, there is a potential for noise on weekday mornings. Do do not expect a quiet bucolic lazy morning, unless it's the weekend. I provide a noise-canceling machine, noise and light-blocking curtains, and earplugs. If you are an extremely light sleeper, this room is probably best not for you.

* SHARED BATH: while guests are here, I use the shared bathroom for showers only and get ready exclusively downstairs in my half bath. So the shared bath feels more like yours.

* PRIVACY: With your hall door closed (see pics), your own steep staircase to your side of the 2nd floor, and your own entrance, you can enjoy quite a bit of privacy.

* BARKEY GREETING: My dog WILL bark. I don't care if you are the dog whisperer, he will bark. If you have any hesitation about walking up to a house with Cujo greeting you, this place is really not for you. His bark, by design, is loud.

* NOT APPROPRIATE FOR: infants, toddlers, or seniors. Prove me wrong if you're a senior, by all means! Just warning...

Acesso do hóspede
You have your own keyless entrance leading to your flight of steep stairs at the front of the house.

Across our shared bath, W/D available for use.

Parking on the street is readily available, but it can be tricky: there is usually a parking spot right in front of my house, but do not park in front of my immediate downhill neighbour. Other bonus: during snowstorms and parking bans we can fit one other car in my driveway.

I'm happy to open my home to your pooch, provided your best friend does not decide to eat or chase my very senior cat. He is old and curmudgeonly, and now that his littermate died, grieving.

Thumper is a rescue who loves the company of other dogs. On-leash he is protective when we encounter an adult male dog his size or bigger. He goes "up to 11" with younger adolescent dogs. He couldn't care less about toys. There are plenty of dog-friendly places nearby, and Thumper is happy to share the best stops along his dog walk to get a treat. He and I have become avid trail-walkers, so please ask us about the best off-leash trails to discover nearby. Portland is really beautiful for its bustling city life, dog-friendly city places, and dog-friendly nature adventures. And obviously, Woof woof: !!! "Please clean up around the yard after your pooch."

East End, Portland, Maine

Just down and around the corner from here: kombucha, A&C Grocery, a bakery, a couple of breakfast joints, Maine Craft Distillery, an oyster bar, restaurants on Washington Avenue, and still in walking distance more microbreweries and art studios in East Bayside.

For runners, trail walkers, and vista seekers, I'm around the corner from Jack Path (easy to find on a map), part of the Portland Trails system that leads to Eastern Promenade, Back Cove, and the beach, and also a stone's throw from Fort Sumner Park with its iconic views of Portland.

From here, it's also a short walk to the top of Munjoy Hill and its several restaurants, a pleasant 15-minute walk to the Old Port and a 20-25 minute walk to the Arts District and MeCA, the Maine College of Art.

I'm a college teacher and tango dancer. Grew up in France. Oui, je parle et j'enseigne le français! I live here with my senior grumpy cat and one big lazy dog who will always bark when someone comes to the door. My home is a charming modest old New Englander, built around 1870. I renovated the downstairs to be an open concept but maintained the upstairs' character with its small rooms, knee walls, dormers, glass doorknobs.... If you're here on a Sunday, you may catch a tango brunch in my downstairs, and if so, feel free to join! If you stay here, make sure to check out the online guidebook I will send you! I've listed some of my favorite neighborhood haunts and some must-see places and activities in the city and beyond. Portland is a fantastic city, and I hope that your stay here will inspire to come back.

As much or as little as you want. I am a French teacher, tango dancer, and now avid trail walker/runner with my dog. I'm happy to share great tips about this beautiful city. During the academic year (Sept-May), you might see less of me as I'll be focused on teaching, although I'm home in the evenings and obviously on weekends.
