COVID-19 Update: We have enhanced disinfecting protocols, & because I have a lung condition, we are hypervigilant about virus transmission. We first spray everything with disinfectant & leave it for the mfr recommended interval. After that, we go in to clean, change linens, finally we give another complete disinfectant spray on our way out. In addition, we wash all linens in a high-temperature wash & dry. Please see below for full property description!

O espaço
My place is 1.2mi from the plaza in a conveniently located residential neighborhood. With its small, simple, Santa Fe style, you'll feel at home right away! The main room has a kiva fireplace & sleeper sofa as well as a full kitchen & small dining area. There is a separate bedroom with closet & washer/dryer. The enclosed, private courtyard is perfect for kids & pets. This guesthouse is separate from, but next to my home where I live with my partner, our son, and two fuzzy dogs!
As you walk in through the rustic red gate, you enter into an open, shady courtyard/small garden filled with lilac, an apricot tree, and wildflowers in the summer months. The front porch (in New Mexico it's called a portal) spans the length of the guesthouse & is very much a part of the living space. With it's lively rug & simple outdoor seating area, it is always hard to make yourself go inside & miss out on our incredible New Mexico weather! Two sets of french doors are meant to be thrown open to bring the outside in.

The first set of doors opens to the main room with it's traditional kiva fireplace, sleeper sofa, and full kitchen. The flat-screen TV is available for streaming & both Netflix & Amazon video services are included. The guesthouse has radiant floor heat and colored concrete floors, although the fireplace is often more than enough. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator, gas stove, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, & is stocked with pots, pans, & utensils. A small dining area with a handmade table & vintage chairs is perfect for dining, working, or games!

A small washer/dryer unit is next to the bathroom which has a tub/shower combination. There is a pocket door hidden in the doorway between the bedroom & main room for privacy (or supervision if necessary!). The bedroom has a queen size bed (built by Scott) along with a closet & hangers. The second set of French doors opens into this bedroom from the portal, so you can let the beautiful weather or just the sunshine in!

Please keep in mind that Santa Fe has been living in drought conditions for many years, and as a result we have some of the the lowest water consumption per person in the US, with our per person rates averaging 95 gallons per person per day, compared to the national average of 150! We therefore ask you to be mindful of your water use in our dry city (i.e. turn off the tap while brushing, etc...).

Acesso do hóspede
Generally from the Red gate on, the space will be yours for private use, although we do need access on occasion for landscaping. We also have two friendly dogs who will bark on occasion. They love people and are trying to be civilized!

Outras observações
We have a kid & dogs, which often behave like kids & dogs do. Although generally well behaved, we are all in close quarters!

Unfortunately, I am seriously allergic to cats, and therefore are only able to host dogs. I'm really sorry about that!

Localização

Santa Fe, Novo México, Estados Unidos

My neighborhood is great! The location is amazing in that it is close to everything, without being in the middle of everything. It is a typical neighborhood in Santa Fe, which means it isn't really typical of anything. It is a residential street, although you won't find any lawns or that sort of thing, most of the residences here are behind adobe walls. It's residential, yet just two blocks away from St. Francis, which is one of the larger thoroughfares in the city.

The "Tune Up" cafe, which was featured on the Food Network, is just three blocks away, as well as a laundromat two blocks in the opposite direction. If you like to cook or dine in, there is a Sprouts, Albertson's, and CVS about a mile away at DeVargas Center (there are restaurants & shops as well). During the summer months, the Farmer's Market is a very popular place for local organic produce & other products. The Railyard District has a Violet Crown movie theater, restaurants, shops, galleries & events just 0.5mi down the street.

Canyon Road & the Santa Fe plaza are about 1.5mi away and offer endless choices for dining, gallery strolling, and shopping all steeped in 400 years of history. The plaza (or downtown) area is about a mile away and has zillions of shops, galleries, and restaurants as well as one of Santa Fe's specialties - museums! The New Mexico History Museum, Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, Governor's Palace, New Mexico Museum of Art, & famed Institute of American Indian Art are all right there (not including our own Museum Hill, with a handful of other museums there!).

If you're taking a day trip up north to Chimayo or thereabouts, simply hop on to St. Francis and you're already on 285 north. If you'd like to head up the mountain for snowboarding or hiking, swing around Paseo de Peralta to Artist Rd & you're on your way.

I love Santa Fe! I feel so lucky to live here!! I've always believed that living here is the closest you can get to living in another country in the U.S. I moved to Santa Fe 27 years ago, and it's such a wonderful place both my mom and sister now live here as well. Although I started my career in academia studying Neuropsychology, I never finished my PhD and ended up spending the last sixteen years as an internet retailer. I work from home so I'm around a lot of the time, and I live here with my partner Scott, our 12 year old son, and two dogs. Our son is homeschooled, so we aren't the family that leaves for work in the morning & all come home in the evening - we're all over the place! Although I love to travel, I am honestly so happy in Santa Fe that it is hard to tear myself away and I frankly don't get on the road much at all! My house is my treasure - the original building is a 50 year old adobe, although it's been so remodeled & expanded over time it can be hard to find those original walls. The guesthouse & studio were added in 2005, and we have just recently renovated the studio into a living space from the artist studio it had been. We remodeled the kitchen area with a full size gas stove & new tiled countertops. Scott built the murphy bed as well as installing the new sink & toilet. We landscaped the courtyard and hope to keep adding to it! We've done all the work ourselves and really enjoyed the process. The climate and altitude are very different here, please feel free to ask me about any of it! We are around 7000ft, which is much more than a mile and will affect you physically. Be sure to bring water with you everywhere, always put on sunscreen, and remember - one cocktail at this altitude is the same as drinking THREE at sea level! My motto? "To Live A Life Worth Laughing At"
