Restaurants, shopping and our fabled harbor hosting day sails exploring Penobscot Bay and its islands are a five-minute walk from one of the oldest capes in Camden village. Built in 1800 and located on a quiet one-way street with a private entrance, the second floor is reserved for you. Two air-conditioned bedrooms and bath. Rooms are priced for one room. 2nd bedroom ($50 per night) available for your use, otherwise, it will remain unoccupied during your stay. Wifi access.

O espaço
Choose either the yellow queen bedroom with Italian luxury bedding or the white double bedroom with crisp vintage bedding. Both are furnished with period antiques and have access to a private bath with handmade tiles designed by the owner in the shower and one person tub. Aveda botanical toiletries. Spa bathrobes are provided for your use during your stay. Biscotti or muffins in the morning, Keurig, breakfast tea. Air-conditioned. Mini fridge, parking, and WIFI included. Please be aware that, typical of the era when the house was built, that the stairs are steep and may not be suitable for very young children. The second bedroom is available for an additional $50 per night or will remain unoccupied during your stay.

Outras observações
Joshua Dillingham, the original owner who built this house in 1800, owned wood lots in the surrounding area. We found a copy of his will tacked to a beam during renovations. In keeping with the time period, he left his estate to his sons. His wife was allowed to live in the house until her death and keep her jewelry but could only use wood from the lots for her own use versus selling it. That opportunity was granted solely to his sons.

Localização

Camden, Maine, Estados Unidos

My house is in the village so access to the harbor, shops and restaurants, etc. is a short and relaxing walk right around the corner and a few minutes away. It is opposite a Montessori school, closed during the summer, but has a wonderful playground that is open to all.

I moved to rural Maine in 1993 and lived there for ten years before relocating to Camden. One of my favorite stories is about driving past a wheelbarrow full of tomatoes by the side of the road. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a large handwritten sign that said "Free". Surely those tomatoes would be gone by the time I drove home but since I was rushing to the bank before it closed, I didn't stop. Well, as it is in Maine, people talk, Even tellers at bank closing time talk. I cashed my check and was still thinking about those tomatoes while the teller asked about the renovations on my house and gave me the life history of every worker on the project. She had gone to school with one of them and his high school girlfriend was her best friend and so it went on. I gave up on those tomatoes and gave into this Maine way of life where folks are genuinely interested in others. Fifteen minutes passed, half an hour passed. I began the drive home thinking of the double lives of the various people who, I learned, when not working on my place played the fiddle in a weekly band, or wrote for the local paper, or were experts on foraging for wild mushrooms. Then, I saw the wheelbarrow with it's "Free" sign still held upright by red warm from the sun tomatoes. "Maine", as the turnpike sign states, "the way life should be"
