Our holiday home is set next to the village of Bonniconlon, nestling in the shadows of the Ox Mountains on the Mayo/Sligo border.
Bonniconlon is a picturesque rural village on the R294 regional road, some 5 miles east from the prosperous town of Ballina. Bonniconlon has many attractions, the area is known for its wild beauty and is an ideal base for touring the north west.

Perfect location: Wild Atlantic Way/Ballina(10 min drive). Enniscrone Beach (15 min drive). Ireland West Airport (30 min)

The vacation rental consists of a bright well furnished space, their is central heating system throughout, fully equipped kitchen, two bedrooms. The bathroom has a bath and electric shower. Their is a double drive (parking area for two vehicles) at the front of the property. We have a large gated garden to the back. The property has the advantage of being set in a quiet peaceful spot, but is only a ten minute walk into the local village (Bonniconlon). The village houses a well stocked Gala Convenience Store very handy for essential supplies. The main town of Ballina, 5 miles away, offers a wider range of shops. The town is home to the world famous River Moy (Ballina is often referred to as the Salmon capital of Ireland) Ballina has a variety of shops, from large chain stores to more traditional family owned shops and no shortage of Bars, Restaurants & Coffee Shops.

Guests have access to all spaces throughout the cottage. We have a large gated back garden area. The sun sets to the front of the property, it is normally a captivating sight. There is a bench located just outside the front door. At the end of the day, guests can unwind take the weight off their feet, pour themselves a glass of wine (cup of tea!) and watch a magnificent sunset on the horizon

Situated right on the border between Mayo and Sligo the picturesque village of Bonniconlon (Bunnyconnellan) is a microcosm of the north Mayo region. Unspoiled beauty, understated charm, a warm & friendly community, the village offers a West of Ireland welcome that is second to none.
With its close proximity to Knock Airport, Ballina, Wild Atlantic Way, Enniscrone Beach/Atlantic Ocean, the nearby natural delights of Lough Talt & Ox Mountains, you can immerse yourself in a myriad of unspoilt walking trails & fascinating undiscovered historical/archaelogical sites.


The local village houses two bars, Gallaghers Village Tavern & The River Inn. Both bars are traditional, warm & friendly. Their is also a well stocked Gala convenience store/post office. The village is home to a beautiful church 'Immaculate Heart Of Mary'.

You can pick up the world famous 'Wild Atlantic Way' route (approx. 10 mins away)

The location provides an ideal base for hillwalking, fishing, golfing and touring the Northwest. Céide Fields, Foxford Woollen Mills, Knock Shrine, Yeats County Sligo, Tír Saile (The North Mayo Sculpture Trail) Enniscrone Beach. Rosserk Friary, Moyne Abbey and the North Mayo Heritage Centre (Family History), are all a short car journey away.

The Ox Mountains afford the visitor an opportunity for superb hillwalking.
Bonniconlon Loop: starts and finishes at the Football Pitch in Bonniconlon village. It is a moderate-hard 20 km long trail and is marked by a red arrow. The loop takes takes sections of both the Western way and Foxford Way and includes minor roads, country lanes, bog tracks and green tracks. It takes approximately 5 hours.

The Kilgarvin Loop: This easy 8km long loop walk starts and finishes at the Football Pitch in Bonniconlon village. It winds through minor roads, country lanes and bog tracks. It takes also a little section of the Western Way. The estimated time is 1 hour-1hour 30 mins. The trail is marked by a green arrow.

Drumsheen Loop: starts and finishes at a new carpark off the R294, 3 km east of Bonniconlon. It is an easy 7km long walk loop and it takes approximately 2 hours. The route of this walk combines a portion of the Foxford Way and the Western Way and winds through minor roads, country lanes and bog tracks. The trail is marked by a green arrow.

A few miles south of Bonniconlon lie Loughs Brolly, Carrowkeribly and Cartoon. All are noted for their stocks of trout and pike.

Five miles east of Bonniconlon on the Tubbercurry road is the picturesque Lought Talt, a haven for any fisherman. Here you will find an abundant stock of brown trout.

Enniscrone. Ballina. Rosses Point. Tubbercurry.

Fr Patrick Peyton, known the world over as the 'Rosary Priest' was born in nearby Attymass in 1909 and died in the USA in 1992.
The Fr Peyton Centre was built in his honour and is located in Attymass near Bonniconlon.

Bonniconlon has a vibrant community spirit and although the local population is relatively small, each year the village hosts the largest Agricultural Show west of the River Shannon. The annual Bonniconlon Agricultural Show & Gymkhana, first established in 1949, takes place on August bank holiday weekend. Attracting an estimated 30,000 people each year from all over Ireland and beyond, it is a traditional family day out, offering something of interest to all ages. It is reputed to be one of the most successful and well-attended shows in the country.

Ballina, Mayo's largest town (home of the famous River Moy) is just 5 miles down the road. Their is a rich variety of pubs and restaurants in the town. From traditional cuisine to cosy cafes to ethnic restaurants. Ballina offers a wide variety of quality food to suite all tastes.
The Ballina Salmon festival takes place each year in July. The festival provides a week long feast of free entertainment for the entire family - Music, song, theatre, art, heritage, culture & novelty events.

For an interesting, healthy and relaxed holiday, Bonniconlon offers the perfect location. If you want a clean environment free from all pollutants including urban noise you'll love this part of County Mayo
