O espaço
Ground floor
The ground floor, with underfloor heating, has a spacious kitchen/dining room opening into the living room, where double doors give access to the secluded patio. The luxurious master bedroom is designed for relaxation with a king-size bed and claw foot bath; the modern shower room is adjacent with a good-sized single room with pull out to make it into a twin, also on the first floor. The woodwork throughout the cottage is quite unique, with wide bespoke doors made from reclaimed local joists to compliment the original beams and pillars.

Betsey Trotwood is opposite the owners’ house however it has allocated parking on the drive and a secluded courtyard garden at the back so that you can enjoy privacy.

The front door opens into an entrance hall opening to the inner hall with stairs rising ahead, a cloakroom and door to the kitchen/breakfast room. The ground floor is tiled throughout with underfloor heating to keep your feet cosy!

Kitchen/Breakfast Room
This super light and large kitchen with glossy base and wall units is well equipped with a two oven Aga, fridge, three drawer freezer, dishwasher, free standing microwave, washer/dryer and coffee machine (capsules provided to start you off). A dining table with four chairs sits under the large arched window overlooking the courtyard and Airplay allows you to stream your own music from an Apple device.

Living Room
The large L shaped sofa invites you to sit back and watch the wide flat-screen TV on cooler days or open the wide door to the private patio garden. The room also has occasional tables, and a large arched window overlooking the main courtyard.

The cottage is opposite the owners’ house (The Rookery) however they will respect your privacy and you will be able to enjoy privacy in the secluded courtyard garden with table, chairs, and BBQ at the back and have an allocated parking space on the drive.

The Rookery of Blundeston is famous for being the birthplace of 'David Copperfield', in the novel of the same name by Charles Dickens. In the novel, David spent his early life in the Rookery, the adjacent house to this holiday cottage – hence the name “Betsey Trotwood”, named after David’s characterful great-aunt.

Betsey offers a number of walks charming direct from the property either around the village or off across the beautiful Halvergate Marshes towards the Broads. A short easy drive away are numerous beaches, Lound Lakes Nature Reserve, Somerleyton Hall, and the whole Broads network where you can spend days on end being walked by the dog.

WHATS INCLUDED?
All prices include 100% cotton bed linen, towels, heating and electricity, plus a welcome bottle of wine and biscuits to help you get your break off to a relaxing start.

This contemporary cottage (along with an office and gym) is part of the Listed former stable block and coach house to The Rookery’s main owner-occupied rectory. It’s equipped with under floor heating on the ground floor and appliances include a wide flat screen TV with Freeview, Wifi and Airplay allowing you to stream your own music from an Apple device. The kitchen is well equipped with a two oven Aga, fridge, three drawer freezer, dishwasher, free standing microwave, washing machine, coffee machine (with a few pods to start you off) and a BBQ for summer months.

A travel cot, high chair and stair gate are available from the property owners on request at the time of booking."

Oulton Broad, Suffolk, Reino Unido

With The Rookery featuring in the beginning of Dickens’ favourite book, Betsey is an ideal base for a regional tour of Dickensian History through Blundeston, Somerleyton, and Great Yarmouth. Step back into British history with a visit to the Somerleyton Estate just two minutes away; set in 5000 acres, Somerleyton Hall is widely acclaimed as one of the most beautiful stately homes in Britain and is open to the public every April to September.

There’s plenty of walks within easy reach, as well as a short one to the village pub. Nearby Lound Lakes is a nature reserve worth a visit to potentially kingfisher, osprey and bittern (when they’re visiting!). Woodland trails at Herringfleet, Corton or Fritton. Beaches at Gorleston, Corton, and Lowestoft are within 10 minutes, or wander from the property down to the Halvergate Marshes and through to Somerleyton and make a day of it, with or without your dog.

Not only is it charming, but Blundeston is a very central village for visiting the Norfolk and Suffolk Coasts and Oulton Broad, the most southern area of open water in the Broads system where there are a range of lovely restaurants and pubs. There is a warm and friendly village pub, The Plough, just 500m away, where you can taste good home cooked food and local ales. Neighbouring Lound and Somerleyton both have good gastro pubs.

Hopton nearby includes leisure resorts and amusement complexes, notably Potters Resort home of World Championship Bowls. Lowestoft, Gorleston and Great Yarmouth are a short drive, and offer everything from sedate museums to the exciting Pleasure Beach, Africa Alive and Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park. Add to that within in little over 30 minutes are Southwold and the Heritage Suffolk Coast or the fine city of Norwich and North Norfolk beyond.
