This 4 bedroom / 2.5 bath is convenient to Lake Marion, Santee State Park, and Audubon's Beidler Forest. The house is within walking distance of the quintessential Southern grocery store (Piggly Wiggly) and 4 minutes from Sweatman's Barbecue, which has been featured in Southern Living, USA Today, and Huff Post.

This Victorian era farmhouse offers a perfect place to relax after shopping / antiquing in Summerville (30 mins) or sightseeing in historic Charleston. 10 miles from both I-95 and I-26.

O espaço
The house was built between 1900 and 1912 by a local farmer. For many years, it served as both residence and surgery for the town doctor, who was — by hobby — a horticulturist. The large, fenced-in backyard features both Camilla bushes and established shade trees.

In the morning, enjoy your breakfast in the cozy kitchen; gathered with your family in the spacious dining room; or on the front or side porches (one outside table sits four; the other two).

The downstairs master bedroom features an antique double bed frame (1800s); a "cupboard under the stairs" office space; and adjoining full bathroom with tub/shower combo. The upstairs master bedroom features a king sized bed, and an adjoining full bathroom with tub/shower combo. There are two additional bedrooms on the upper story -- one with twin beds and a Thomas the Train table (with accessories!); and another with a queen bed and small desk. There is an additional half bath.

In the evening, relax on the front porch swing or in the rocking chairs. Or, enjoy the private backyard while watching the fireflies.

Outras observações
(1) Our backyard is also home to a half dozen or so chickens. They will happily stay in their large coop during your visit (that is well-stocked with food and water). You may either leave them alone completely or let them out to roam. If the latter, make sure to gather the fresh eggs for your breakfast from the nesting boxes. They will return to roost / put themselves to bed at sunset. You need only shut the coop door.

We are (very) pet friendly (love them!), although if you bring your dog/s with you, please let the chickens stay safely in their coop to avoid unfortunate meet-ups.

(2) Obviously, we love our old home, although please be aware that it is just that: an old home, with old home quirks and a long to-do list (e.g., the windows do not open and look their age, the floors creak, etc.). If the farmhouse does not meet your expectations, we offer a generous cancellation policy and will not only issue a full refund (sans the service fee over which we have no control) but will also help you find accommodations at a nearby hotel. We do not, however, issue refunds after full stays.

Holly Hill, Carolina do Sul, Estados Unidos

Holly Hill, SC is a tiny town of only around 1,000 people. As with many rural towns in the Deep South, its downtown area features many empty storefronts. That said, the town has a grocery store; Italian, Chinese, and soul food restaurants; a bar/grill (Richard & Momma Jane's) and a couple of thrift stores all within walking distance of the house. [We've actually partnered with Jennifer at J&L's Consignment (8533 Old State Rd), who will offer our farmhouse Airbnb guests 10% off purchases!] There is a charming train depot on an active line. The Holly Hill Golf Club is only 3 minutes away, if you fancy a game of golf or a swim in the outdoor pool: http://www.hollyhillgc.com.

The magic of Holly Hill, though, is that it envelopes you in small town living while being convenient to some of the best nature excursions South Carolina has to offer (see: Beidler Forest in neighboring Harleyville that is "the world's largest virgin cypress-tupelo swamp forest" @ http://sc.audubon.org/visit/beidler) as well as the best shopping / dining / and historical tour experiences that South Carolina has to offer (see: Charleston, SC @ https://www.charlestoncvb.com). I will offer a number of itineraries that we've used for guests in the past that include everything from berry picking at Holly Hill's Hickory Bluff Berry Farm to bike rides on Kiawah Island's beach.

My husband owns an automotive machine shop (the family business) in North Charleston, SC, and I'm a freshmen composition instructor at University of South Carolina in Columbia. We have two children, Arina and Jack. We rotate our time between a circa-1900 farmhouse in Holly Hill, a historic train depot that we are renovating on Lake Marion with my parents, and my home town of McBee, SC.
