Our home is located in the beautiful and very historical area of Keash, Ballymote in the North West of Ireland. This house was originally built in the 1850s and until we made some minor renovations in the past few years, it would have been your typical three roomed Irish cottage with a large fireplace at the heart of the dwelling. It is full of character and charm from its thick stone built walls and small doorways to the various steps throughout the house.

O espaço
Our home consists of a kitchen come dining, utility room, attic living room, bathroom and one master bedroom. Unfortunately due to its very old design, our home may not suit someone with mobility issues or anyone with young children.

County Sligo, Irlanda

We are nicely nestled between the folklore mountain of Keshcorran to the West and Carrowkeel Megalithic Complex on the Bricklieve Mountain range to the east.

Wine and Dine in the area -
The Travellers Rest Bar:
Just 2km from our front door, you will find one of Ireland’s smallest pubs (if not the smallest). If it’s real country style Ireland you are looking for then this is the place to sample one of the finest pints of Guinness this land has to offer. On the right day and with the right locals at the bar this is an experience you’ll not forget.

The Fox’s Den Bar and Country Kitchen:
Food and beer, sure what else would you want. 3kms away in the heart of Keash you will find this gem. With its large choice of good food, from its award winning country kitchen, you will not leave here hungry. The Wild Atlantic Mussels are to die for or maybe if that’s not to your liking then try the Caveman Burger. Ask any local about the food here, "it’s always consistently tasty". If you can check out the “small bar” section of the pub, with its original 19th century open fire and good pints. You’ll not regret it. Try their local beer too, “Andersons”, a great pint of red ale.

The Coach House Hotel:
Breakfast, Lunch or Fine Dining, they’ve got it all. In the Town of Ballymote just 10mins away, this is where you’ll find another great spot for a bite to eat. The Irish breakfast is just perfect to set you up for any day. They have great lunch specials and a fantastic evening menu with lots of choice too. We love dining here on a Sunday evening, as from 5pm they have an in house pianist to play out the last few hours of service.

Walking, Hiking and Fishing -
Carrowkeel Megalithic Complex:
A 5km hike from the front door of our house will take you to the top of Carrowkeel. Here you will find 14 megalithic passage tombs. These tombs are thought to be in the region of 6000 years old and have an association to more passage tombs at Carrowmore on the outskirts of Sligo some 20km away. On the longest day of the year, 21st June, you can see the summer solstice light up one of the passage tombs.

The Caves of Keash:
A sight to behold, 5mins drive or a 6km walk will take you to the foot of Keshcorran, where on the south facing side of the mountain you will see 17 limestone caves, the highest caves in Ireland, each one waiting to be explored. Folklore has it, that the first High King of Ireland Cormac Mac Airt was raised here for the first few years of his life by a she-wolf and her pack. A short 10-15min climb will take you to the first of the 17 caves. Take in the views of some of the finest scenery around. Lookout for Fenagh Lake which has a similar outline to that of a map of Ireland or on a clear day look for Croagh Patrick Mountain in Westport some 80km away. If you’re feeling more adventurous then continue to the top of the mountain, heading up the left side of the caves.

Choice of lakes:
If it’s fishing you’re after, there are plenty of well-known trout fishing lakes around. Check out Lough Arrow, one of the larger lakes in the area, some 5mins drive beyond the village of Castlebaldwin. Or a fantastic smaller lake option at the rear of Keshcorran Mountain you’ll find the lovely Lough Na Leibe, approx 7mins drive away.

The bustling town of Sligo has lots of high street brands available and is 20mins heading North West on the N4. About 10mins east you’ll find the town of Boyle and 10mins West you’ll find the town of Ballymote, both similar in size with some bars, restaurants and large grocery stores. A 5min drive from our home you will find the village of Castlebaldwin. Here you can pick up, in Mullins service station, some everyday bits and pieces like bread and milk etc... Here you will also find an eat in or take away fast food restaurant.

Capital City shopping:
A two hour drive east will take you to Dublin City. If you prefer the train, then 10mins from here you will find Boyle train station linking to Connolly Station at in the heart of Dublin City with a number of stops along the way. This journey is about two and half hrs long.

There are many other activities to do in and around the area, all just a short drive away.
