Tangara House Mompiche was built with the vision to create a tranquil space surrounded by nature where guests can unwind and reconnect with the beauty that the local fauna and flora has to offer. We aim to maintain an always flourishing garden, plant trees that offer food and shelter for birds, insects and other animals, and compost our organic waste in order to give space for nature to unfold. We are repaid with over 40 different bird species frequently visiting for nesting and feeding.

O espaço
The room can host up to three persons, has a private bathroom with a shower (no warm water!) and is located on the 1st floor of a bamboo bungalow in a beautiful garden and close to the rainforest about 800 m outside of Mompiche.

Onde você estará

Mompiche, Esmeraldas Province, Equador

Mompiche Beach:
The times when Mompiche and its beach were considered an insider tip amongst national and international travelers have long gone. That being said, apart from large holiday weekends, Mompiche has still been spared from mass tourism, and it is not uncommon to find yourself largely on your own at the beach merely sharing it with a group of local fishermen and a handful of surfers.

The beach is nestled in the southern curve of a large crescent-shaped bay that invites to long relaxing walks during low tide. You might get lucky and catch one of Mompiche’s memorable sunsets, see some slackliners showing of their skills, or you could climb up to Mompiche’s cemetery and enjoy a spectacular view over the village, beach and rainforest (only recommended during daytime). The entrance to the track leading to the cemetery is right next to a large tree sitting on a big block of stone with most of its roots hanging in the air, making it quite a spectacular sight in itself. Please note that the entrance might not be accessible during high tide.

Playa Negra:
Playa Negra, or the “black beach”, is deservedly one of the most visited tourist attractions in the region. Its name derives from the shimmering black sand rich in titanium and other valuable minerals making it unique along the Ecuadorian coast. Playa Negra is a unique ecosystem that used to also be a nesting area for turtles and home of a broad spectrum of coastal and marine wildlife.
Besides spectacular sunsets, funny photos with black sand and relaxing walks, more adventurous type can swim or surf at this beach break too.

Isla Portete:
On sunny days, you might accidentally think that you are in the Caribbean when you get to Portete Beach. Isla Portete’s beach is an almost endless seeming stretch of white sand lined with coconut trees and turtle nesting grounds. It is possible to surf at the beach, swim, simply sunbathe or enjoy lunch or a drink at one of the local food stalls. The further you walk away from the beach resort, the less people you will encounter. If you walk far enough, you reach Bolivar.

José Luis has longstanding experience as chef and hotel manager in Ecuador. Whilst we are in Berlin, Brianne and Robyn, a couple from the U.S. is managing the property on our behalf.
