Built in ‘16, this lovely little cabin in a little cabin neighborhood is cozy and convenient. Near Cloudland Canyon State Park (1.5m), Hanggliding (8m), Chattanooga (28m), Canyon Grill restaurant (.6m), Lookout Mtn Pizza Co., and many wedding venues. Queen bed in main level bedroom, full bed in open loft and twin pull-out in the living room. Private screened back porch, slackline, WiFi, TV, DVD, Gas grill, and carport. Max 2 dog-babies are ok. No dishwasher, ice-maker or fire pit. NO SMOKING.

O espaço
This is an 850 sq ft. cabin on a wooded 0.6 acre lot in a cabin neighborhood with a relaxing private screened back porch and remote controlled twinkle light fire bowl. The front yard is densely landscaped with evergreens and perennials. The back yard is mostly wooded with a small seating area next to a 2-burner Weber gas grill and a view into the woods and the slackline area. Carport has a clearance of 6'4" - watch your car and your noggin. Not fenced.

As of 7/29/22 I will start allowing up to 2 dogs. Please include your pets in your reservation details and be a considerate pet parent. Trucks on the paved road drive fast so I strongly recommend walking them on a leash down the gravel road to the cul-de-sac and against allowing them off-leash unless you have fully mastered off-leash obedience. I provide bags by the back door so you can always pick up poop. If your pet has an accident inside or other incident that affects my property, please let me know so I can be prepared when I come to clean - do I need a carpet shampooer or replacement rug, etc? I have a 100lb dog and I am very understanding but I'd rather know ahead of time what I need to clean or fix than be surprised by it and have to make additional trips up and down the mountain.

Ground floor has the main bedroom with an Avocado Organic Queen mattress, open living room with LazyBoy chair-and-a-half that pulls out into a twin bed, WiFi, cable tv/blu-ray/dvd player, Bluetooth sound bar, and an adapter to connect your iPhone to the tv. There is plenty of room for a pack-n-play but I do not provide that. Living room and kitchen are open. Kitchen has drip, french press and percolator coffee makers, microwave, toaster oven and food processor. There are plenty of pots and pans, cutting boards, and a generous assortment of cooking basics - oil, vinegar, salt and pepper, butter, flour, etc. There is a dining table with leaves that fold up to become a little bit larger and two chairs at the table and two more in the house serving double duty. A large barn door slides to separate bedroom from living room. Bathroom is also on the ground floor with a small pocket door, cedar surrounded shower and full tub, and an all-in-one European style washer/dryer.

Upstairs directly above the main bedroom in the open loft is a full bed.

The cabin is new construction with over 20 different wood species and reclaimed barn wood trim. It is snug, not drafty. It has central heat and air and I provide stand fans, space heaters and a dehumidifier. It has a cedar bedroom closet and cedar tub surround and smells like cedar, not like a musty cabin. The front door has a screened door that in good weather we leave open as well as the back door to the screened porch and love the sound of the trees and the breeze but still safe and screened in.

The floors in the cabin are stained concrete (hard & cold) so you will want to pack comfortable house shoes, slides or flops.

Plan a fun filled day at nearby Cloudland Canyon State Park, hike or bike local trails, schedule a tandem hang-gliding adventure at Lookout Mountain Flight Park, watch a sunset from the launch site or Sunset Rock, go hiking and rock climbing at Rocktown, and visit everything in Chattanooga (Rock City, Ruby Falls, Point Park, Incline Railway, The Tennessee Aquariums - one fresh and one salt water - Creative Discovery Children's Museum, IMAX, Lookouts Baseball, Chattanooga Zoo, UTC, Covenant College, Track 29, etc...) or unplug and finally finish that novel or take a sleep vacation. The screened-in back porch is a great place to relax. Park in the carport. No smoking anywhere on the property.

Avacado Green Organic queen mattress in main floor bedroom.

Serta full mattress in loft. Loft is open to the rest of the house, no doors, not completely private, warmer than lower floor but has 2 air vents and the air return and a stand fan.

La Z Boy chair and a half in living room pulls out to a twin bed. It's a pull out bed so don't make anyone over 25 years old sleep there ;)

Kids and infants are welcome although I don't have any items for an infant guest beyond kid cups and dishes. There's room for a bassinet or pack n play if you don't mind being self-sufficient in that regard. There's nothing inappropriate and the major danger is the stairs to the loft and you can see the stairs from the kitchen/living/dining room so it's easy to keep an eye on kiddos.

I'm the host, the house cleaner and reviewer. My husband is the maintenance man and landscaper. We are an individual operation with just this one rental. I'm not trying to build an AirBnB empire. This is our personal cabin that we still use when we need/want to and we are happy to share it with with guests that want to feel like you're staying at a good friend's place and who obey the rules and take good care and don't do filthy or mischievous things that would jeopardize the friendship. I'm a scientist not a decorator. I like comfortable and clean over trendy or thematic. I'm a responsive host and I really do want you to be comfortable and enjoy my cabin. So if you have a question about anything or somethings comes up, please reach out to me. Use the word 'Great Pyrenees' in your pre-booking message for a special treat at check in ;)

Canyon Cabin is in a tiny cabin neighborhood. It is a one road cul-de-sac with 10 cabins spaced apart at about .6 acre each so there are neighbors within view and there is a neighbor across the street from Canyon Cabin. This shouldn't be an issue because there are no parties allowed, but if you're trying to get naked in nature then this probably isn't the cabin for you. All depends on what kind of vacation you're trying to have.

The larger community is called New Salem. It is a rural, mountaintop community with a wide diversity of homes, land and farms. It's quiet and peaceful for the most part with the occasional sounds of rural life (tractors, jacked up trucks, roosters, guns). There aren't any sidewalks. The main intersection is 189/136.

The nearest grocery stores are the Food City and Ingles in Trenton off the west side of the mountain and the Food City and Super Wal-Mart in LaFayette off the east side of the mountain. The nearest businesses to Canyon Cabin on the mountain are a Dollar General, Canyon Grill restaurant, Lookout Mountain Pizza Company, Canyon Quick Stop, Crossroads Restaurant, Cafe 136 and The Creag restaurant at McLemore Cove. Trading Post Smoke House is nearby and you might pass it at the intersection of 136/157 but I don't recommend it.

The nearest activities are Cloudland Canyon State Park, Nickajack Connector Trail (hiking & mountain biking), Lookout Mountain Hang Gliding, Rocktown (rock climbing), Paradise Gardens Museum in nearby Summerville. DeSoto State Park and Cloudmont Ski and Golf Resort in charming Mentone, AL is also nearby. Covenant College is 16 miles away. Chattanooga is the nearest big city with tons of activities, attractions and restaurants (35 minutes).

It’s wedding season!
Oak Leaf Cottage is 6.3 miles / 12 minutes away.

The Venue at Lilly Lou’s is 9.6 miles / 16 minutes away.

The Barn at High Point is 11.9 miles / 17 minutes away.

When there are guests at the cabin, Tom and I try very hard to be responsive. I work night shift and Tom works day shift. Always always reach out if there is an issue or question about critical systems - heat/air, electricity, water, and safety. Also feel free to reach out for other stuff too. We're locals.
