The Hawthorn is your very own private mountain glamping getaway complete with beautiful open air yoga/sleeping lounge up top and a cozy camper down below. Inside you will find everything you need; super comfy queen bed with bamboo sheets, TV, AC, mini fridge, one burner stove, toaster oven, panini press, press pot for coffee and tiny sink with hot water. Step outside to enjoy an outdoor shower, bbq, campfire or to use the low flow RV style toilet outhouse. Best for couples or solo adventurers.

O espaço
Guests will have their very own private spot on the side of the mountain, in the middle of The Blue Ridge Parkway National park. The Hawthorn skyloft tiny camper is complete with an outdoor shower on the porch, low flow flushing RV toilet, tiny kitchen, one burner cook top, fridge, AC, TV (with Google chrome cast, mostly works but also have a dvd with movies) the live nature show is better ;) WiFi (can be slow at times if lots of people are on it) BBQ grill, fire pit, super comfy queen bed with bamboo sheets and duvet cover that is cleaned after every guest. In the open air loft upstairs there is queen futon bed with organic mattress and noseeum netting for sleeping or napping if you prefer to be closer to nature. Note that the entry door is a bit low so if you are tall you will need to duck. The driveway to this tiny house is steep so you will probably want all wheel drive or 4wheel drive. The our other tiny house, the Mayapple loft might be better if you do not have 4 all wheel drive. This is basically a luxury mountain camping experience, not a hotel, as long as you keep that in mind you will love it. Guests are welcome to come up to to the main house to access an indoor shower/bathroom if you would prefer or to venture into the bamboo forest, peak at the garden or hike along the logging roads. We have a 40 acre preserve that we are slowly turning into tiny private getaways to share with lovely people like you. My mother “GrandMary” lives downstairs, she still grows almost all of her own food, (with some help from us ;) in our raised bed gardens. My oldest daughter Lydia helps run the place and lives below the gardens in a tiny home village of like minded artistic and adventurous 20 somethings “the crew” who spend the summer here and help me get things done. My brother Jon an accomplished nature artist, is also often around working on projects in the wood shop or creating nature art around the property. We have ducks, 4 cats and 4 dogs among us. Lupin is the only dog that we let run around because his job is to be sure that all of the wild animals understand where the property line is. He is an absolute sweetheart and I have never seen him be aggressive towards anyone. Do let me know if you are afraid of dogs and would prefer for me to keep him inside during your stay. Guest dogs and children must be supervised at all times, as there are hazards including a pond, wood piles, tools and equipment. We celebrate diversity and you are welcome if you do also :) to see more about our place check out our Instagram page @the.OutsideInn and don’t forget to tag us when you share your photos from your stay so we can give you a discount on your next stay. A portion of our earnings go to support our work in the Congo basin rainforest in Africa through my sweetie Godi’s (the builder of the Mayapple and the skyloft on the Hawthorn) Non profit, Go Conscious Earth .org and to the local Non Profit that I work for Appalachian Voices. Look them up :) your stay is making all of this possible, we are eternally grateful! We welcome and encourage feedback so just txt me or leave a note if you have ideas for improvements.

We are some of the lucky few have a driveway access from The parkway. The mountain to sea trail runs just at the top of the driveway. It about a two mile hike to the cascade waterfalls or you can drive there. About a mile down the road is Park Vista restaurant, you might need reservations if you would like to eat there. Other than that we are pretty much in the middle of a National park. We have one neighbor down here and he also has a beautiful tree house that he rents on airbnb. He has sweet fluffy white dog and a few ducks. We have two tiny houses that we rent and a few that the crew stay in along with the main log cabin. I have two sweet dogs Sasha and Lupin and three kitties Finn, MoMo and Pepper. My daughter who lives down the hill has two cute dogs Rigby and Freida. There is a large woodchuck habitat in the gully so you may see them gallivanting around. We do often let Lupin out so he can keep an eye on things, he is a pure sweetheart, I have never seen him be aggressive but do let me know if you would prefer him to stay in. We love and welcome kind people of all kinds!

We live on 28 beautiful wooded acres off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We love to spend our free time hiking on the parkway, playing on the land, canoeing down the nearby river and sledding in the winter. We enjoy an alternative lifestyle and love to meet new people. On our land we hope to offer a safe place to learn more about natural living, nutrition, native plants, mushrooms, natural building, tiny houses and alternative energy. I work for a local non profit Appalachian Voices that is dedicated to Energy Democracy, Environmental Justice and a Just Economy for Appalachia, I also help Godi with the nonprofit that he started to help save his rainforest home and people in DRC Congo.
