Onde você estará

Te Horo Beach, Wellington, Nova Zelândia

Te Horo Beach is a pretty, tranquil holiday destination. A small, friendly beach settlement of a mix of permanent residents and holiday homes. The beach is safe for swimming and surfing. Wildlife includes gulls, terns, and rarely seals and orcas. The beach is popular with photographers, fishers, swimmers and beach-combers.

Many come here for the whitebait fishing season. It is also a horse-riders' paradise with many options for interesting rides. There are no footpaths, just grassy verges dotted with bright orange and yellow beach daisies.
BUS STOP CAFE:
Coffee lovers, foodies and gardeners will love the popular Bus Stop Cafe offering home baking dispensed from an old blue bus, as well as a range of gift ideas and cards on sale. Set within beautiful gardens, an easy walk 1.5km on Sims Road, open Friday-Sunday, 10am -4pm.

I am unobtrusively in residence, (or out doing stuff), except to help guests with organising a range of experiences and adventures, including beach sausage sizzle, picnic baskets, kayak hire and horse trekking.

I'm delighted cater for you, restaurant-quality meals in-house with advance notice. However, if the munchies should suddenly descend on you, never fear --- "Pot Luck" is where you tell your personal sous chef, I'm hungry and please feed me. NOW. Then you'll get a choice of whatever can be rustled, a nibbles platter, flash toasted sandwiches or a flash omelette.

On occasion I've been happy to be roped in as a driver. Not only to drop-off and pick-up guests from train and bus, or the kayak to the river. But also to show guests around local places of interest, wineries, cafes, picnic and swimming spots on the river, and stunning bush walks. My ute takes 4 passengers. Mileage reimbursement applies and any charges for picnics.

For beginners, a fun sit-on kayak, life jacket and paddle, with a hand trolley for easy walk to the beach, is available. Getting the kayak to the beach is "do it yourself" basis, with the easy hand trolley. Mangaone stream mouth offers a calm, shallow lagoon for kids to safely play with the kayak. The larger Otaki lagoon & river paddling involves organising transportation, drop-off and pickup.

For the highly adventurous, check out Kapiti Island Sea Kayak and Hike. It looks like a real Bucket-Lister, and I'm up for doing it one of these days.
Suitable for novices through to expert paddlers. Duration 6 hours, meeting at 9am at Kapiti Boating Club. Maximum of 8 people. Kayak around Kapiti Island in the Kapiti Marine Reserve with an experienced guide, in a small group. Experience the stunning bush walks on the island, and see the native birds. Enjoy the abundance of wildlife in this pocket of New Zealand. The cost is around $160, and it must be booked well in advance. Ask host to check dates availability.
