This is a sweet and plushy appointed one bedroom apartment in a garden setting in the heart of Arcata. A short stroll to the plaza, the University, and local restaurants, events and community Redwood forest. Nestled in a region of striking beauty.

This is a beautiful one bedroom apartment, in a unique older apartment building, just down the street from the University and across the 11th Street bridge from downtown Arcata. (We own and manage the building so we can assure you of pleasant neighbors!).

The apartment has a separate bedroom and full kitchen and has been fully refurbished with cherry cabinets, gorgeous hardwood floors and tile shower. It is tucked around the back of the building, sheltered from noise, and adjacent to the garden area.

This space is sometimes a short stay location and sometimes an extended stay location, so if reviews are not recent it just means we have had a longer term guest staying most recently.

The apartment is located in a sweet residential neighborhood, just down the street from the University and directly across the 11th street bridge from downtown Arcata. You have all the convenience of a very central location without the noise and commotion of being right down town.

I grew up in Brisbane, Australia, but have been based in Humboldt County, California, for most of the last twenty five plus years. I first left Australia as a 17 year old exchange student to Mexico for a year, and have since traveled quite a bit. One way or another, that first overseas adventure played a big part in me spending most of my adult life on the other side of the world from where I started.
My husband, Don, is originally from Florida, but has been in Humboldt County since the early 1970s. He's a general building contractor by trade, but these days we mostly work together on our collection of rental properties. We love remodeling and fixing places up and we have a lot of fun creating sweet places for people to live and stay. Most of our rentals are regular longer term tenancies, but we have enjoyed the move into furnished short term and visitor accommodations over the last six or so years.
We enjoy veggie gardening and planting fruit trees. We love to cook together, drink a little red wine, mountain bike in the forest, and run away to the beach or the mountains when we can wrestle our various projects into submission. We also have a lot of fun hanging out with our two delightful daughters, Ruby and Eva, who are 17 and 15.
We lived in Bayside for many years - at the same location as two of our short stay listings - but about five years ago we moved two miles into the heart of Arcata to rehabilitate a dilapidated but delightful Victorian that was once Arcata's original hospital/sanitarium. This is home to one of our newest listings (Peaceful garden retreat). We have often been told that the house is haunted, but if that's the case, it seems the house spirits are happy to have a family back on the premises.
It's a good life and a lovely place to live (and visit!).

We do not live onsite, but we are often about for one reason or another. We will make arrangements for you to be able to check yourself in, though we are happy to meet with you if timing allows. Plenty of visitor information will also be available in the apartment for those wanting to explore the many opportunities that Humboldt County has to offer even if we don't happen to coincide with one another in person at the time of your arrival.
