Welcome to the Joseph Steiner House in beautiful, historic Brewer's Hill. Enjoy quiet comfort in your cozy room in our historic home. Built in 1872, with all the modern conveniences, and the pretty Milwaukee city skyline in view.

In other cool news! A travel article listing our home first on AirBnB's to visit in Milwaukee was published. WOW! The FryCroft AirBnB Book on Face page has the url. Surprised and honored!

Welcome!

First, a quick COVID-19 status: As I write this, the city of Milwaukee still has Safer at Home orders in effect but that doesn't mean you cannot still visit. We love having you as guests, have missed you all like crazy and are so happy to again open our home to you. Our availability calendar has a few more limitations but it reflects the extra precautions we're taking to ensure cleanliness and best social distancing scenarios.

Trying to decide about visiting Milwaukee? There's still lots to do and enjoy. Please feel free to drop us a message anytime. We're happy to offer our up-to-the-minute thoughts.

So, on to the fun stuff!

About our house...
Our historic Victorian was built in 1872, but has almost completely been re-done inside and out. It is also the home-office of Milwaukee's Shakespeare in the Park.

Your room is lovely, clean, airy, and comfy and is furnished with an eye to fitting in a little with the home's history. It's also still a work in progress with a few more cosmetic projects, such as finishing the hardwood floor.

As is typical of historic homes, the bedrooms are cozy (read: on the small side) but there's room for 2 plus suitcases. Please Note: We actually have 2 private bedrooms for guests and this listing is for this larger one.

DOG - We have a dog, Trystan and the first thing we do when you arrive is put him in his kennel and then introduce you while he’s in there. He barks when you arrive but is absolutely not aggressive at all. His breed is vocal and barking is his greeting. After you meet, he will have the run of the house and you'll get to be best friends.

YOUR BEDROOM...

- A real bed - a soft, queen-sized Beauty Rest. There's only the one bed in your room, so you'll be sharing it with whomever you travel.

- A wing back chair.

- An antique knee hole desk with a Windsor style chair. We keep an extension cord plug on top of the desk to make it easy to plug in your phone, laptop, or whatnot.

- Wifi access.

- A coffee maker in your room is stocked and stowed for easy set-up.

- The bookshelf with empty space for your items and a movable mirror on one of the shelves.

- Ceiling fan with dimmer lights and a dream catcher.

- A closet with hangars and a basket with a variety of essentials just in case you forgot something at home.

- Antique carpet.

YOUR BATHROOM...

- Is downstairs on the main floor. It is 100% for our AirBnB guests. If there is someone staying in the other bedroom, you'll share it with them.

- Stocked with shampoo and soap and plenty of towels.

In addition to your private bedroom and (possibly) shared bathroom...

- You're welcome to use any of the seating areas up and downstairs. There are basically 2 living room areas so if you want some privacy, pick whichever is available.

- The kitchen. We stock lots of tea, cups and an electric kettle. You're always welcome to use the shared kitchen. There's a microwave and the other usual features. Feel free to stow anything you like in the fridge.

- The garden. We have a pretty big yard and you’re welcome to sit out and enjoy. If you've never sat in a sky chair, it's like floating.

About access to the house...
PARKING - It's FREE for up to 3 nights and plentiful on our street. That's a bit unusual for a larger city so we like to make sure you know. If you're staying longer than 3 nights, a pass is $20 OR you're welcome to park in our driveway.

KEY - You'll have your own key to come and go any time you like.

STAIRS - There are stairs leading up to the front door and your bathroom is on the first floor. The bedroom is on the second floor. If stairs are a concern, please note this configuration.

SHARED LIVING ROOM - Speaking of sharing the house, we occasionally spend an evening binge watching Netflix and the television is in the living room space at the top of the stairs. To get to your bedroom, you will need to cross this living room between the couch and the tv. Makes absolutely no difference to us but it's good to know. You’re always welcome to stop and chitchat. We’ll usually be using headphones to keep the noise next to nonexistent.

CHECK IN TIMES - Our check in hours are between 1 and 9pm. We both work so we try to set a time works best for our mutual schedules. It may be possible to drop your luggage earlier. Please check to make sure. We’re only about 15-20 minutes from the airport plus time to pick up bags and rent a car, etc. We appreciate you being considerate of this time frame.

CHECK-OUT TIMES: Check out is no later than 11:00 am. If you need to leave really early in the morning, that's absolutely fine.

One other note (since it comes up): We offer our room(s) only via AirBnB which means that we don't book them outside that system. Meaning, we don’t take cash at the last minute to add a person.

Thank you for considering our home!

There are stairs leading up to the front door and your bathroom is on the first floor. The bedroom is on the second floor. If stairs are a concern, please note this configuration.

We will sometimes relax in an open landing space at the top of the stairs in an evening. That means you'll be crossing that space to get to and from your room. We’re super low key and unobtrusive and it’s easy to share. Plus, the dog loves the opportunity for a drive-by petting if you’re so inclined.

There's a coffee maker in the bedroom but you're also welcome to use the kitchen. The 'library' with footstools and a wood burning stove, and the garden on the side of the house are nice lounging areas.

Note: We do have 2 bedrooms however only this one is currently available to book.

Outras observações
The house was built in 1872, when rooms were typically built smaller. Both bedrooms are on the cozy side and are most comfortable for 2 people.

Your bathroom is on the first floor and your bedroom is on the second floor. We do mention this in our main description, but I want to make certain you're aware of that. The downstairs bathroom is not used by anyone but AirBnB guests during your stay.

Brewer's Hill, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The Joseph Steiner House is a registered historic home within a 6-square block designated Historic District - beautiful Brewer's Hill. The area is located just up the hill from the old breweries that made Milwaukee great. The beautiful brick buildings are still there and have been re-purposed for other uses.

There's plenty of free street parking and it's a nice neighborhood to walk. We encourage you to check out the other Victorians via a stroll.

A favorite is the Riverwalk. Milwaukee has a paved walkway along the river with lots of outdoor sculpture and views of the city and access to some great restaurants. It takes you into downtown. Access to the Riverwalk is a short 5-minute walk from our house.

Brewer's Hill is a 15 to 20 minute walk from other fun and eclectic Milwaukee neighborhoods - Brady Street and the East Side. The downtown Milwaukee skyline is also within view and is beautiful all lit up at night.

We feel fortunate to be able to live in such a beautiful area and in an historic home. This house has a welcoming vibe and we love sharing it. My day job is the Executive Director for Optimist Theatre - producer of Milwaukee's free Shakespeare in the Park. The energy of guests sparks creativity! AirBnB has become my version of the old time Sears Wish Book. One of my favorite things to do is look at listings and make wish lists so that I can travel in my dreams at the very least. When I actually get to travel, the ideal situation is to go somewhere long enough to have to go to the grocery store and do laundry. In other words, I want to experience what it's like - albeit in a very small way - to live somewhere. To be a traveler, not a tourist. I always look to AirBnB first. I've felt welcome and comfortable - and prefer staying in a home vs a hotel. Those experiences made me keen to share our home as well. It's a great place - on the register of historic places - which will always blow my mind! But, it's really a casual, comfy house with frumpy furniture, lots of pillows, and too many coffee and tea mugs Travel is an important part of life. Whatever reason is sending you out of the house, I'm glad you're doing it. We'd be honored if you'd stay with us.

We work from home, so the main floor of the house is also the office of Milwaukee's Shakespeare in the Park. We will occasionally have work meetings in our conference room (aka the kitchen). Feel free to wave as you walk by! We're theatre people (read: outgoing and friendly) but we also respect your space.
