The gates to this historic gorge first opened back in 1817, making it the longest established attraction on Isle of Wight, enticing many millions of visitors to wander through and marvel at its natural beauty over a double century of seasonal openings. https://www.visitisleofwight.co.uk/things-to-do/shanklin-chine-p147941”

“All sorts to do here. You can walk out to the western most tip of the island and see the old battery built in 1862 and the new battery which is home to a fascinating exhibition about secret rocket testing during the Cold War. Stunning views.”

“ Serving 7 days a week, the Haven is great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Friday and Saturday nights are also buzzing. We LOVE the view over the marina, river and to the Isle of Wight. Walking the coastal wall from here is superb.”

“I'm mentioning bonchurch because I'd like to recommend (if you're able bodied and like a good walk) the Coastal Path walk from Shanklin to Ventnor through the landslip, past Devils Chimney. It can take aprox. an hour and a half, best if it's not rainy as it gets muddy and then you need good boots :) you can get the number 3 bus back from Ventnor town it goes every half hour or so check http://www.islandbuses.info/”
