Museu de Arte
“The PAM was established to house the City Council of Pretoria's art collection, built up since the 1930s. The collection consisted mainly of 17th-century work of the "North Dutch school". South African works included pieces by Henk Pierneef, Pieter Wenning, Alexis Preller, Frans Oerder, Anton van Wouw and Irma Stern. As South African museums in Cape Town and Johannesburg already had good collections of 17th-, 18th- and 19th-century European art, it was decided to focus on compiling a representative collection of South African art. Aside from these artists, work by Hugo Naude, Maggie Loubser and others was acquired.”

“The Sammy Marks Museum is a Victorian mansion called Zwartkoppies Hall, situated about 23km outside Pretoria. The 48-room mansion with its lush gardens and tennis courts originally belonged to 19th century agricultural, industrial and mining tycoon Sammy Marks, who lived there with his wife Bertha and their nine children. The estate became a museum in 1986 and the opulent life of the Marks family is remembered today in this carefully preserved house museum and is one of the tourist attractions in South Africa that showcases some of the country's old world charm.”

“Rugby flows through the veins of many Pretorians across all divides. A popular slogan and newspaper headline for the city is “Our blood is blue” and this is commonly used to describe the fans of the Pretoria based South African Rugby Union team: the Blue Bulls. Rugby mania is especially evident on match days, when the Jacaranda City turns blue. People wear their Bulls jerseys to work, blue flags are hoisted wherever possible and souvenirs and bulls products are sold on the street corners of the City of Tshwane. ”
