“This museum has been one of the most important meeting-places of culture in the city of Rijeka for the last four decades. With its permanent display and many valuable exhibitions from its own holdings or of other Croatian museums it takes part in tracing the important events connected with the history and culture of Rijeka Primorje-Gorski Kotar County and Croatia, and so it reveals small parts of the insufficiently known past. With its research into the complex materials, in a time span from prehistory to the Modern Age, with expert and scientific methods it processes, systemises and presents the role and development of the whole of the social organism in the region of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, the Croatian Littoral and the city of Rijeka and points out its specific and interactive relationship with other European centres over a thousand year period, with the aim of becoming a dynamic, open and educative institution. ”

“The torpedo exhibition at the former railway warehouse in Žabica was organized to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the launch of the world's first torpedo device in Rijeka Bay in 1866. A new naval weapon consisting of a small exploding boat, which can be deemed the predecessor of the torpedo, was first designed by an Austrian captain, Giovanni Biagio Luppis. The English collaboration with him, managed to produce a new device. It was a self-propelled, auto-piloted and self-detonating one called ''minenschiff'' and later ''torpedo''. Tested in Rijeka Bay, this device started being produced in 1967.”

“The Old Gateway or Roman Arch is not a Roman triumphal arch, as was once presumed, but a representative main entrance to the centre of the Late Antique command compound of the Roman Tarsatica, an ancient town on whose ruins the medieval Rijeka was built.”

Cafeteria
$
“It's simply the best bar in the city. The odd collection of furniture, every thing is different. There is no two tables the same. Friendly service, great coffee and mixing with locals. It's a smart place, with eclectic and chilled clientele. Actors, sailors, degenerate scum, brilliant minds, artsy fartsy types. It's got a real mix. The bar is perfect place to have a drink alone, with friends, couple or to chat with someone new. ”
