“Tulum is located a bit closer to Cancun than Chichen Itza, roughly 2 hours south. This is a smaller site and can be seen in about an hour but it's worth the trip simply for the breathtaking views. ”

Water Park
“Regarded as one of the world’s greatest Natural Wonders, Xel-Há provides one of the best experiences in the heart of the Riviera Maya. Practice snorkeling and see hundreds of colorful fish and a great diversity of marine species that inhabit its cove and cenotes. At this All Inclusive Park you can enjoy water activities, ecological attractions, restaurants and the best scenery to admire while you relax in a hammock or stroll the nooks and crannies of Xel-Há. Come and immerse yourself in one of the cenotes, lagoons or caves, and enjoy the aquatic zip-lines you’ll only find at Xel-Há.”

“Playa del Carmen’s main dining, shopping and entertainment district is located on the vibrant, pedestrian-only 5th Avenue. At the South end of this charming, cobblestone street is a central square in which visitors can view various free performances throughout the day. The ‘Voladores de Papantla,’ (Mayan Flying Men) climb an 80-foot pole and play traditional Mayan music with flutes and a drum. Four of the five men, spiral slowly downward, suspended upside down by their feet with a rope, which is attached to a rotating platform at the top of the pole. The 5th remains at the top to play the music while the others descend down, flying in a circular motion.”

Campground
“This is one of the nicest beaches closest to Akumal. Its protected secure and a great place to catch the waves on windy day, this is good spot to spend a half day in the sun, they also have a small fresh water cenote to rinse off after being in the ocean all day. One of my favorite beaches around. Just pay a donation of the sea turtles and they will let you in. Usually 50-80 pesos. ”

Parque
“If you are Lucky you will be greeted by squirrel monkeys living wild a beautiful informative walk along a beautiful jungle path. The botanical gardens and archeological site are overlooked gems. Established many years ago, the gardens are diverse and mature. Raised beds of traditional Mayan medicinal herbs may also be seen under cultivation. Archeology spans from Mayan ruins, through the gum harvesting era to rebuilt Mayan huts. A morning walk will often include sightings of monkeys in tree canopy. Reasonably priced entrance is helpful to land preservation as well as local awareness of environmental issues. The entrance is difficult to see. When heading North on route 307 slow down ”

“What makes Laguna Kaan Luum special is the color of the water and the fact the center is a deep cenote. Some say the center is about 80 meters (262 ft) deep. You can see the color contrast between the center of the lagoon and the sides. ”
