“In its hey day, during Victorian times, this was a world reknowned exhibition centre made almost entirely of glass, a new technology at the time, and the brainchild of Queen Victoria's Consort, Prince Albert. It burnt down under suspicious circumstances and the museum tells the story. The grounds are magnificent and represent the first real exhibition of life-size dinosaurs which can be seen in the lake and surrounding areas. ”

“Leith Hill affords some of the finest views in the south east of England and is the highest point in Surrey. To the south you will be able to see the South Downs and on a clear day you might even see The Shard and Canary Wharf in London. For a small fee (or free to National Trust members) you can climb the 74 steps of Leith Hill Tower, built in 1765. There is a small refreshment shop at the base of the tower which serves tea, coffee, soft drinks, cake and ice cream. Our property lies north of Leith Hill and we have found a super 5km circular walk which will take you from your accommodation all the way to the top of the hill and back.”

“Vibrant and historic borough, bursting with great walks, pubs and restaurants. Walk through Battersea Park, along the river, to see the iconic power station or Albert Bridge. Stop for a pint in the Prince Albert or treat yourself to a meal in the Nutbourne, in a converted wharf. (Ask the waiters nicely and they might take you into the cavernous basements that used to keep London's ice, when it came in boats from Scandanavia in the days before refrigeration). ”
