Dawlish Warren is just over a mile from The Old Lime Kiln, and you can walk along the SW coastal path there. It is full of holiday parks and so the shops and cafes reflect this. However if you walk along the beach you will find a nature reserve and beautiful quiet beaches that the majority of tourists don't venture too!

https://discoverdartmouth.com A trip to Dartmouth is a great day out. Catch the train from Starcross to Paignton, then take the steam train to Kingswear, and then a ferry across the River Dart to the town. You can then either come back the same way, or take a ferry up the river to Totnes and catch the mainline train back to Starcross.

Chagford Lies on the northern side of Dartmoor. The River Teign meanders around the village and on through the Teign Gorge overlooked by Castle Drogo owned by the National Trust and on to the Fingle Bridge. There is also Fernworthy reservoir. There is an amazing shop in the main street that sells everything! Its like a treasure trove and fascinating.

Totnes https://www.visittotnes.co.uk A very unusual town and I quote ‘the locals pride themselves on being different’! They don't allow chain shops there so very individual. There is also a lovely vineyard and cheese producer there called Sharpham Estate, where there is one of the best examples of an ox bow lake.

South Hams A beautiful area but very narrow roads so very slow! Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Slapton Sands, Beesands (a great fish shack on beach called the Britannia) and Bigbury on Sea where the tractor goes across the sea at high tide to the art deco hotel on a Burgh Island. Salcombe https://www.salcombeinformation.co.uk Very pretty town on the river and ferry rides up to Kingsbridge. Great Gin making facory you can tour. https://www.salcombegin.com Slapton Sands On the night of 27th April 1944 during World War Two, a terrible tragedy unfolded just off Slapton Sands on the coast of Devon. 946 American servicemen died during Exercise Tiger, the rehearsals for the D-Day landing on Utah Beach in Normandy, France. ... Two landing ships were sunk and a third badly damaged. There is a memorial there. Riverford Farm and field kitchen https://www.riverford.co.uk Great place to stop for breakfast if you are going south from here to Totnes, Dartmouth or Salcombe on South Hams. Noss Mayo https://www.coastandcountry.co.uk/blog/noss-mayo-south-devon-village-guide. This was the setting for Dawn French’s TV programme ‘The Trouble with Maggie Cole’. You can walk between Noss May and Newton Ferrers at low tide or ferry if tide is in.

https://www.visitexeter.com Exeter is the county town of Devon. It is a university city and so the shops and night scene reflect this. There are 2 buses that go from outside the house into Exeter: one to the top of the city to the shopping area by John Lewis, and the other to the bottom of the city past the Quays, where there are activities and bars and restaurants.
