Göltürkbükü is a secluded coastal destination that is often overlooked by foreign holiday makers but a well-loved retreat for the rich and elite Turkish citizens from the big cities. Originally two secluded bays of the Aegean Sea, it has seen a dramatic rise in popularity over the last ten years. With new developments and buildings, the two bays of Golkoy and Turkbuku amalgamated to form the new and heavenly village of Golturkbuku. The shifting sands of small beaches and protruding man-made jetties are the focus of life in the summer time and adventurous holiday makers will find a Turkish way of life, totally different from the local villages. The cultured bay of Golkoy is quiet and has an almost homely ambience while the bay of Turkbuku caters for the flamboyant and creative visitors using exclusive beach clubs and eager staff to wait on clientele hand and foot. Golturkbuku is often one of the many destinations visited by private yacht owners who are touring the Bodrum peninsula on their long summer breaks from the chaotic bustle of the cities.

Yalıkavak is a simply stunning, elegant resort town with an incredibly wide range of points of interest. It is situated on a medium sized crescent bay with the Greek isles of Leros and Patmos in the near distant view and so importantly, it has a walkable "Plaz Cadd" (beachfront walkway) all the way around the bay, making "strolling" the past time of most who stay here. It has won the hearts of many hard core fans as the top spot on the peninsula. It has a super relaxed atmosphere, sunsets that postcards are made of, a lovely old village of many unique shops, plenty of artists selling their wares, and local shopkeepers and residents who pride themselves on talking with you and even offering a cup of tea so you might sit down with them for a rest and a chat. Even though it is incredibly popular, it has managed to maintain a slow paced way of life throughout the village and yet, you can skip over to the ultra-hip Palmarina for some fast-paced nightlife and some of Turkey's best chain restaurants and bars. Life in Yalikavak centers itself mainly around the busy harbor front and "Plaz Cadd", yet fabuously hidden gems lie in the surrounding hills just waiing for someone to discover them. One such hidden spot are some carved out caves on the far side of the bay, near the Kudor area. You can take a day trip there (only a few hours necessary, but the whole day is possible with a picnic lunch--as no restaurants in this area)) and you can climb and explore in the hills, then take a refreshing dip in the ocean, which is easily accessed through many of the small, less well-known coves surrounding the hills there. It is a great family excursion. The Pamarina is popular with many for its very sleek and sophisticated feel, its amazing array of either "rather famous" or "incredibly famous" international yachts ,whose owners travel the summer circuit of all the "best marinas", and its tantalizing selections of shops and restaurants, which seem as as if you were walking through a large city's malls or restaurant rows with all the "right names" on the doors. Impressive Turkish village architecture runs throughout Yalikavak and the old style gardens surrounding the houses with olive and tangerine groves and chickens running loose in them really tell a story of century old village life. The peaceful ambience of these houses fit in perfectly with the lush green hills and crystal blue coastline of the Aegean Sea.

Bitez, the rather chilled village with a rhythmic, laid-back beachfront, sets itself apart from the throbbing party town of Gumbet, just next door. A welcoming, cool vibe exists here that is a bit bohemian in nature. Somewhat smaller, and therefore more doable, than some of the other harborfronts, Bitez beach will entice you to oil up, put your sunglasses on, (or seek out one of the many shady venues there) and leisurely let the day unfold. Perfect for those couples with split interests--plenty of wifi and shady, well-serviced watering holes, while only steps are away many comfortable sunbeds and all with ever-so-relaxing tunes spilling out over the air. Bitez is unique and differs in character and appearance from all other resorts on the Bodrum peninsula. It portrays a comforting atmosphere of tranquility and calm, backed up by the beautiful sandy beach which is shaped in a half moon. The mountains backing the resort of Bitez village are covered with ripe olive and citrus trees producing tasty fruit at the end of summer. Don’t go to Bitez if you are looking for crowds and a fast paced lifestyle. Bitez village is about sitting back and enjoying the Turkish way of living.

The peaceful retreat of Gumusluk is also famed for being the ancient Carian city of Myndus, mentioned in Shakespeare’s turbulent tale of Julius Caesar. Today the small village has tucked away its colourful past to be a favourite destination for musicians and artists looking for inspiration in life. Urban legends blame the downfall of the ancient city of Myndus to an earthquake that caused the city to fall into the ocean. Look closely below the water line and you will see parts of the city walls. Facing the bay is the small but historic Rabbit Island which is currently being excavated so that the present generation can lay their hands on the ancient artefacts that will tell us more about the history of Gumusluk. Thanks to the historical importance of the area, building prohibitions are in place and this means that Gumusluk has retained its natural and rustic ambiance as a beautiful Turkish village on the Aegean coastline.

The quiet and peaceful village of Gündoğan is nestled on the Aegean coast of Turkey and despite becoming more popular in recent years; it still remains true to its roots. Surrounded by hills filled with olive and pine trees, the coastal resort is much like the neighbouring destinations as fishing is an important trade. In ancient times, the village was called Farilya and it was home to many prominent civilizations including the exotic Persians, domineering Romans and the long ruling Ottoman Empire. In 1961, the village was renamed to Gundogan and translated, it means sunrise. This is a brilliant portrayal of the beauty of the area both in day and night time.

The name Ortakent translates to "middle city" and this is reflective from its location inland from the sparkling beauty of the Aegean coastline. Many people write it off as a holiday destination as it is better known for being a centre of business rather than a tourism hub. Even though it does have business qualities, there is an area of Ortakent on the outskirts known as Yahsi and this is where you will find a long sandy beach to soak up the rays of the Turkish sun. If the aim of your holiday is to discover the true traditions and culture of Turkey, Ortakent is well worth a visit if even only for the day. Gardens are brimming over with citrus fruits and the long coastline of the Yahsi area makes this destination a picture perfect postcard. As tourism is still being developed, the next ten years will see Ortakent become known for its beauty rather than its business credentials.

Torba is one of the more well-known resorts of the Bodrum Peninsula. In the winter time, it more or less grinds to a halt however in the summer time, it is a bustling destination that is a favorite choice for many foreigners and Turks. Its popularity could be down to its scenic views. The coastline is blue with sandy beaches while the hills are covered with sweet smelling herbs and olive trees. The rural ambience is quite addictive due to the relaxed and carefree days that the locals like to promote.

Turgutreis is a charming coastal resort, backed by green mountains, surrounded by the crystal waters of the Aegean and shined upon by the blue skies of the summer season. Previously, this popular resort was known as Karatoprak, however the name was changed to Turgutreis in 1972 to respect a Turkish sailor who was born there in 1485. His braveness and determined character serve as a testament to the resort that is now becoming known throughout the world as a must-visit holiday destination. Stunning views from Bardakcı include a crystal blue coastline and the magnificent Bodrum castle, so it is no wonder that Bardakci has earned itself a reputation as one of the most beautiful bays on the Bodrum Peninsula. Like many of the coastal resorts on the peninsula, life in the summer season revolves around the sandy, golden beach. Bardakci also has its history in ancient myths as it is said to be the place where Hermaphroditus was overcome by Salmacis the water nymph and fused into her body to always be known as intersex. The clean water fountains of Bardakci were a source of water for Bodrums inhabitants in the past and this is how it earned its name, refering to "Glass" or sometimes also known as "The Water Jug".
