Food Scene

The Scran and Scallie is Edinburgh’s fabulous gastropub, brought to life by Michelin-starred, Edinburgh-superstar chefs Tom Kitchin and Dominic Jack. It has recently been refurbished but favours an informal pub-style eatery than the duo’s other fine-dining establishments in the capital, The Kitchin and Castle Terrace, The Scran and Scallie can still boast a unique level of flair and panache in their menu.

Drinks & Nightlife

Smith & Gertrude for a beautiful glass of wine is an absolute must along with a cheese/charcuterie board to go with it. There is a great vibe in here with everyone sharing large tables and enjoying this very sociable space.

Tucked away in a Stockbridge basement the Last Word’s cosy, quirky atmosphere, roaring fires, sheepskin rugs and welcoming staff should make you feel instantly at home. While the décor may be traditional, there’s nothing conventional about the fabulous cocktail menu.

It's a fun place to visit where 'real life collides with technological trickery' and the views of Edinburgh are fabulous.

There is a picture of Bobby in the bedroom on the wall. The story behind Bobby and his master is a tear jerker but just lovely and today a statue of Bobby sits proudly in the middle of Edinburgh.

Just around the corner from Milaylo Cottage and adjacent to the Royal Botanic Gardens is one of Scotland’s largest urban parks and a true oasis in the heart of the capital, Inverleith Park. The park was opened in 1891 and continues to offer healthy-minded locals and urban explorers a huge green expanse for sports, walks and picnics. The original boating pond, playing fields and tree-lined walkways are all still intact, whilst a children’s play park, running track, three football pitches and six seven-a-side pitches now supplement the park’s roster of outdoor pursuits. Our children and dog absolutely love this park and we love the uninterrupted view of Edinburgh Castle.

The Water of Leith is the little river which runs just under the bridge near the cottage. It's a lovely river walk, jog or cycle and there is an abundance of nature to enjoy.

Arts & Culture

Culture vultures will be particularly enthused about the National Gallery of Modern Art, just to the west of Stockbridge. The gallery is housed in an imposing neoclassical building and the gallery’s spacious rooms play host to the work of artists such as Picasso, Braque, Mondrian, Duchamp, Matisse, Warhol and Lichtenstein.. The sizeable grounds also provide a setting for sculptures Entry to the permanent collection is free while special exhibitions sometimes have an entry fee.

Hidden beneath the Royal Mile lies Edinburgh's deepest secret, a warren of hidden closes where real people lived, worked and died. For centuries they have lain forgotten and abandoned... until now.
