Local tea experts. At the T-Bar, they weigh out a portion of tea according to what size cup or pot you order. They don’t give you a small tea bag full of tea crumbs. They give you a generous portion of leaves. Their goal is for you to taste their tea, instead of just tea-flavored hot water.

Located on 3rd street by the skate park, Mikey’s fills a niche by bringing its New York-style pizzeria to the people of C.B. At the end of a day spent biking, hiking, or skiing, visitors to Mikey’s can quiet a rumbling belly with a slice the size of your head, all while skipping the crowded sidewalks and tedious wait times that come with frequenting restaurants along Elk Ave. At Mikey’s, they understand that the best pizza consists not of bells and whistles, but high quality ingredients. Hand-tossed, thin-crust pizzas are lovingly made with non-GMO flour and fresh ingredients prepared daily. The result: simple yet “real good” food. Not in the mood for pizza? Mikey’s also offers sandwiches, salads, calzones, and all-day breakfast options made with cage-free eggs.

Gothic is an impressive ghost town surrounded by the West Elk Mountains, secluded just north of “Colorado’s last great ski town”. It’s accessible year round, but easiest when the snow melts off. A handful of original structures remain in this picturesque, nearly all but deserted, townsite. A few current residents and a high-altitude field station call it home today. The Rocky Mountain Biological Lab operates currently around the townsite. Students spend the summer here studying the local ecosystem.

At less than 11 miles between trailheads, a hike from Aspen to Crested Butte (or the reverse) is one of the most memorable and popular trips taken at the peak of summer and early fall. Hiking time will vary depending on your fitness level and group size, but expect to spend at least 6 to 10 hours of the day accomplishing this feat. Plenty of food, water, clothing layers, and a first aid kit are highly recommended. There are two shuttle services (Dolly’s and Alpine) that will pick you up from the trailhead and bring you to your hotel in Crested Butte. Call and schedule a reservation in advance and they should be waiting for you at the trailhead. Pick-up’s typically cost about $20 per person. These services will also bring you to the trailhead from town in the morning.
