The Church of Panagia Faneromeni is located at he Ammos district, in the southern part of Zakynthos, and it houses some of the most significant and brilliant works of art, jewellery, woodcut and hagiography. If you are an arts lover, you should pay a visit to this church so that you can admire the incomparable talent of the painter Doxaras and his students, as it unfolds in the interior. The church was built in the 15th century but was destroyed during the earthquake in 1953 and was rebuilt with the same materials, according to its old form and keeping the same bell which was undamaged. The hagiographies that decorated the interior and survived the earthquake are now at the Byzantine museum.

Two kilometres away from Zakynthos (Zante) city, we arrive at Strani Hill. This is were our National Poet Dionisios Solomos, who ispired from canonnades in Mesologgi ,wrote our National Anthem.

The original church was destroyed in 1893 after a big earthquake that hit the island and was rebuilt as we see it today in August 1948 thanks to the Special Fundraising Committee created in 1900 to complete the restoration. In the building of the monastery strofadon and the church of St. Dionysios in Zakynthos town has been established since 1979 the church museum which contains relics of this monastery. The museum was founded after desire of then coached Daniel Giants and the initiative of Metropolitan Panteleimon of Zakynthos.

In the historical square of Saint Markos, used to be also the Casino of the island, place of meeting for the Broads, which with the earthquakes 1953 was also destroyed. After the earhquake, in this position the "Solomos & Kalvos Museum" was built.
