You might be surprised to find a strip mall restaurant on our list, but if you are craving Italian the food, this place is fantastic! This place is tiny, if you have a large party call ahead. Located in the Wolf Ranch shopping area, this is where you will find all the big box stores. Drive time, about ten minutes.

Located in Taylor, Texas - about a 25 minute drive east of Georgetown. Family owned and operated for 3 generations. In a State the excels at BBQ, this one stands out. Located in quaint historic Taylor, with some cute antique stores. They close the doors when the meat runs out, and it always runs out. Prepare for a line. But well worth it! This steak, oyster house is located in the historic former post office in the heart of historic Georgetown. The special events hall is located upstairs. My favorite thing is to sit and unwind in the small bar in back with a drink and appetizer. You will see comments online about their spectacular bartender, Dustin. A favorite local hangout for generations, this swimming hole is part of the San Gabriel River hiking trail system. Blue Hole is a scenic lagoon on the South San Gabriel River. The entrance to Blue Hole Park is located at Second Street and Rock Street, one block west of N. Austin Avenue. This scenic park lined by limestone bluffs is a good wading spot to cool down a little bit in the summer! Blue Hole Park is open from 5 a.m. – 10 p.m. Free public parking is available at the corner of 3rd Street and Rock Street in the parking lot or the parking garage. Wear your water shoes, the surface is mostly limestone rocks. The water level gets low when we have been without rain for any significant amount of time.

San Gabriel is 2.5 - 3.0 mile bike ride or walk straight down College Street. Meandering right through the heart of Georgetown are the North Fork and the South Fork of the San Gabriel River. Along the banks of the San Gabriel River where the two forks meet, between the river and Austin Avenue, you’ll find one of the most beautiful parks in the state of Texas. San Gabriel Park was designated a Lone Star Legacy Park by the Texas Recreation & Parks Society in March 2012. San Gabriel Park is one of only nine parks in Texas to be awarded this designation in its inaugural year. These parks were chosen for their historical prominence within their communities and the state by providing natural respite and social interaction as those communities were founded, developed, and prospered. San Gabriel Park is graced with 200-year-old oak trees that offer shady spots for family picnics. The 180-acre park also provides space for concerts and festivals, as well as fields for soccer, football, lacrosse and baseball. A hike and bike trail goes through the park, including a 1.6-mile loop in the park and other segments that connect to Blue Hole Park, Rivery Park, Chautauqua Park and all the way to Lake Georgetown. View our interactive parks and trails map. There is also a 9-hole disc golf course at the north end of the park.

Some examples common park activities include, running, jogging, dog-walking, biking, horseback riding, exercising, cooling off at the splash pad and relaxing. We enjoy hiking down by the river. Hidden for over 10,000 years, Inner Space Cavern is one of the best-preserved caves in Texas. Great for adults and kids but those with mobility issues should pass. It is an hour long walking tour. No strollers. But fun and fascinating. There is one point in the tour where they turn off all the lights and you can experience absolute darkness. For kids who might find this scary they sell little miner hats with headlamps. An unforgettable experience!

Austin in home to North America's largest urban bat population. Mexican free-tailed bats migrate here each spring, eating 10k to 30k mosquitoes each night. The best time to view them is30 to 60 minutes prior to Sunset in August, off the Congress Avenue Street Bridge. Bat Fest has become one of the biggest bat viewing parties of the year, but July-Sept are all great. You can view them for free, or choose a Sunset Bat Watching boat excursion. Be sure to book in advance.

off leash dog park 151 Holly Street - Hours 6AM - 9PM but really dawn to dusk Bark Park is the City of Georgetown’s first public off-leash dog park. 6 acres of fun, Bark Park features separate areas for small dogs (under 30 pounds) and large dogs. Bark Park is located in a beautiful pecan grove providing significant shade for dogs and their owners alike. There is parking available as well as water fountains, trash containers and agility equipment for owners and their dogs. Be sure to locate, read, and understand the Rules for Use posted at the park for an enjoyable visit to Bark Park for yourself, your dog, and your neighbors. Why I love this place - Austin Area has a lot of great parks but this is my favorite because of all the shade. Anyone who has spent time in Texas knows what I mean!! I love to bring a folding chair and towel to clean doggie off afterwards.
