It was built in 1600 BC and originally functioned as a monastery of the Holy Cross, until the early 19th century. After 1830, it came into possession of the newly established Greek state. In the late 19th century, the Greek government sold the tower to Bazeos family.
Now it is used as a place for cultural activities.

BAZEOS TOWER
Few meters from Sangri Village, on the way to Damalas Village approximately 12km from Naxos town, located the Bazeos Tower. It was built in 1600 BC and originally functioned as a monastery of the Holy Cross, until the early 19th century. After 1830, it came into possession of the newly established Greek state. In the late 19th century, the Greek government sold the tower to Bazeos family.
Now it is used as a place for cultural activities.
After the gate of Portara, another landmark of Naxos is the Tower of Chimarou. It is located on the southest of Naxos, between Mount Zas and the kalandos beach, on a hill which shows the strategic position of the tower. The impressive defensive structure of the 4th century is built with double walls, made of local marble. Its plan is circular while the outer side is carefully built with large rectangular plates, which demonstrate the high quality of ancient stone carving. On the south side of the tower we find its entrance, while the only window is at a height of 10 meters. Inside the tower there are 3 levels which are connected by a marble staircase.

The village is well developed both socially, touristically and is a perfect destination for a tour with a variety of restaurants, cafes, folk art shops. In the big village square, the old plane tree stands impressive, offering its shade to every visitor. Various paths spread out amphitheatrically from the square, waiting to be explored.
