The area known popularly as the Bosque de la Habana, is a strip on the banks of the river Almendares in the west of the city, which is preserved in its natural state.
Officially called the Metropolitan Park of Havana, it has more than 700 hectares.
In its interior is the Almendares Park, in the area comprised from the bridge that connects the city with Marianao to Puentes Grandes.
Part of this area is a Protected Area in the category of Protected Natural Landscapes in Cuba and has the name of Josefina Island.
It is one of the most beautiful places in Havana with dense tropical vegetation.
