The Staten Island Ferry is a free ferry leaving from Battery Park in Downtown Manhattan that has trips every 10-30 minutes and takes you past the Statue of Liberty. You can see the statue without some of the massive crowds of the tour boats andit's free. When you dock come right back on the next boat or explore NY's 5th borough. If you decide to stay, make a reservation at Enoteca Maria, a few blocks from the ferry who's kitchen is staffed by grandmothers from around the world. Worth visiting while in Staten Island.
