If someone is coming at you with a huge smile on his face, beware! Probably they want something from you. Sri Lankans are very friendly and helpful people. But they won't come at you with a big smile saying "Hello Sir/Madam!". So beware of people in the tourism industry but treat real locals with respect.

When you use trusted tuk-tuks and cabs you get much more for the money you spend, reasonable prices and don't get scammed. How to find them? Ask your host.

Wether you are staying for a week or 4 weeks, buy a sim card. You will save a lot of money and energy when you have a map and a sim that can call your future accomodations.
