It is an experience and just seeing the different style studios is fascinating. A lovely place for the arts. Medal day is the only day that the colony is open to the public so if you do want to see it, come in late August. Check the MacDowell website for exact dates each year.

The MacDowell Colony
100 High StOur Town was written here and Peterborough is "Our Town". This place has an absolutely amazing history and if you are around for medal you should not miss it. It is an experience and just seeing the different style studios is fascinating. A lovely place for the arts. Medal day is the only day that the colony is open to the public so if you do want to see it, come in late August. Check the MacDowell website for exact dates each year.

This is one of my favorite places in the summer time. I like to order their fried green pepper rings. This place is next to the smallest airport I have ever seen in my life. While you order ice cream, small planes come in for landing practically on your head. It's thrilling. You can take your cone up to the tarmac and hope for another plane to come in. This is a super easy drive from the Green House and you can even bring your dog
Note: in this time of COVID, I would pass on this place. When I get vaccinated I shall return and order a banana split...and a lobster roll, with fried green pepper rings. (gift shop beware)

This is an easy hike with a satisfying end, THE FIRE TOWER! You can even climb up inside it (last I checked which was prior to COVID) This is a fascinating fire tower and is still active. If you happen upon a person working inside ask them about fires that have been seen from this tower.
Then walk back down the path, get in your car and drive up the other path. You are now in Blueberry Land. You're Welcome. Save some for me.

This is wild blueberry land. It is the most wonderful thing ever and one of the least expensive. Take a picnic and check the hours.
