Outdoor Site Seeing/Hiking/Boating

Where you go to get away from the crowds and enjoy the beautiful scenery and waterways of our area.
When not able to make Cade’s Cove Gatlinburg, this is my next best. SereneFlint River meanders through the preserve with paved or natural walking paths for hiking or biking, which runs for miles. Cross over the bridge and enjoy the river beneath. May even see a kayaker or two. Locals love fishing at Hays. There is also a pond close to entrance from which you can fish. Don’t forget your fishing license if fishing in the river! Two entrances available. Highway 431 South is 4 miles from Cedar Cove. Old Highway 431 -1 mile from CC currently closed to widen bridges and add bike/walking lane.

In the 1950’s this site brought archaeologists who uncovered large quantities of artifacts representing a span of time from roughly 10,000 BC to 1650 AD. A National Wildlife Refuge. Watch 200,000-400,000 gray bats exit cave at dusk, June to August. There is an observation deck available. Bring a chair, umbrella or disposable cape along with bug spray. Some may want a jacket as cave entrance emits cool air. This cave holds 40% of all gray bats known to live in USA. They are a precious natural resource to our area and consume millions of unwanted bugs every summer. They will fly every night during these months. A full moon gives better view of their flight. No flash lights on cave entrance as may hinder their exit from cave.
