City/town information

In winter, Mt. Crested Butte, known as "Colorado’s Last Great Ski Town," is a place where skiers and snowboarders revel on Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s thousand plus acres of terrain ranging from beginner and intermediate groomers to extreme glades and steeps. Fourteen chairlifts service 2,700 vertical feet of pure paradise. The terrain parks and incredible half-pipes offer innovative options for aspiring and experienced free-style riders. Other popular wintertime activities include Nordic skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing to to name a few. In summer, Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte are the place to enjoy all of Colorado’s outdoor recreational activities: epic mountain biking (there’s more than 750 miles of trails to choose from!), hiking in alpine and aspen forests, fishing in pristine rivers, lakes and streams, and whitewater rafting and kayaking in class II–IV rapids. Camping is also available in the Gunnison National Forest, which provides a variety of amenities — from primitive to full-service. Enjoy boating and all water sports on Colorado’s largest lake, the Blue Mesa, part of Curecanti National Recreation Area. Horseback riding in the Rocky Mountains is one of the best ways to take in the spectacular scenery. Crested Butte Mountain Resort turns into a mountain-bike and hiking destination as well. Ride the chairlift up, and bike or hike down and experience the Adventure Center's miniature golf, climbing wall and bungee jumping.

Coal Breaker Coffee Co. has plenty of room to spread out if you have a big group or kids. It is over priced. For connoisseurs, I highly recommend Coffee Lab, nearby, where the espresso is much better. Coal Breaker Coffee Co. specializes in rich coffee and espresso beverages, hot breakfast sandwiches, baked sweet treats and grab-and-go snacks. It is a great meeting spot to fuel up before hitting the slopes.

At the base of Paradise Lift, you can enjoy the best Bloody Mary on the mountain (bacon included), some hot cocoa, a cafeteria style food, and outdoor grilling on some weekends. If you’re sitting outside be prepared for an automatic goggle tan too. This tends to be the most popular dining on the mountain. NOTE: This is on the mountain at the base of Paradise Lift. The map shows it in the base, which is the wrong location.

Voted Crested Butte's Best Pizza and Wings for 17 years in a row. History Established in 2002. Kyleena (owner)Ky grew up in Williamsville, New York. At age 19 she traveled to Italy to meet her relatives, who own a restaurant in Sicily. That's when the notion of owning her own restaurant came about. After graduating from the university of Buffalo, Kyleena grabbed a backpack and over the course of the next eight years, traveled to more than 82 countries. She eventually returned and ended up in Vail, where she learned everything she could about running a restaurant.

Best Espresso on the Mountain. Highly Recommended. Short walk from condo. All proceeds from Coffee Lab help to support scientific research at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (RMBL). RMBL provides logistical support for scientists and students, including access to living quarters, research laboratories, and protected research sites. RMBL focuses on the importance of preserving and providing access to historical data about the local ecosystems. As scientists address ever more sophisticated questions about a dynamic world, RMBL is a vital resource for discovering nature’s fundamental ecological and evolutionary processes.

Winter Fat Biking Fat biking is a fun, low impact winter activity that is a great alternative to skiing in the winter. You can get fat bike rentals at a few shops on the mountain or in town or bring your own and ride CBMBA’s groomed trails. It’s easier on your body and you still get to see the surrounding mountains in an active way. https://crestedbuttemountainbike.com/

The town boasts one of Colorado's largest National Historic Districts, with charm impossible to convey in words. In 1990, the Colorado Legislature designated Crested Butte as the official “Wildflower Capital of Colorado”. In addition, the area was one of the birthplaces of mountain biking, along with Marin County, California where old Schwinn bikes were being transformed into bikes with wider tires for more rugged terrain and the pot holes that lined Elk Avenue (the town’s main street). https://crestedbuttemuseum.com/
