City/town information

The historic town of Wolf Creek, founded in September of 1854, was named after the wolves that were once abundant in the state. Here, the famous Applegate Trail or South Road to Oregon (a guided, wagon train trail) ran through Wolf Creek. This trail provided a safer and more direct route to the Willamette Valley or near by mining towns. The town of Wolf Creek includes two gas stations, a general store, post office and public library.

An 8 minute drive from Golden Lodge, London Peak is named after Wolf Creek Inn's most famous guest, Jack London. He was an American author known for completing his novel Valley of the Moon (1913) while staying at the inn that is visible from the overlook in the valley below. Hike to the view point that overlooks the town of Wolf Creek. The breathtaking view is awe-inspiring and worthwhile. The trail features beautiful wild flowers and is primarily used for hiking, nature trips, and bird watching. Dogs are also able to use this trail, but must be kept on a leash. Two different trail heads are located on the mountain right, directly behind Wolf Creek Inn. Choose the lower trailhead at the base of the peak if you desire the challenge of a more difficult and steep climb. The trailhead starts in the Wolf Creek park at the picnic area. You have to cross the creek right away (check water level in the winter and spring) to find the access point. This county park has a $5 per vehicle parking fee payable at the park's entrance kiosk. For a short, barrier-free hike choose the upper trailhead. The road to the upper trailhead is open year round and parking there is free. Directions can be found in the guest room for your convenience.
