Our favorite menu items include the pan-seared sea scallops, shrimp lenny, herb crusted salmon, Great Lakes planked whitefish, and Great Lakes perch. Of all the restaurants we’ve been to up here, Douglas Lake Bar and Steakhouse is my absolute favorite. If you only go out to eat once during your time here, we would choose here.

Of all the restaurants we’ve been to up here, Douglas Lake Bar and Steakhouse is my absolute favorite. If you only go out to eat once during your time here, we would choose here.

Mackinac Island Tips • Bring comfortable walking shoes, and watch where you step! Since there aren’t any cars on island, horse-drawn carriages are the main mode of transportation. • During peak season, first few ferries departing will be least crowded. • Check ferry schedule, as some go under the Mackinac Bridge on the way to/coming from the Island (no additional charge). • There is a fee to bring your own bike on the ferry. • Awesome horse-drawn carriage tours to learn and get acclimated to the island. • If you’re staying at the Grand Hotel- make sure to check the dress code. • Ferry tickets are discounted if you buy online ahead of time. • Bring a sweatshirt or hoodie for riding on top of the ferry and for cool summer nights- can get surprisingly cold sometimes.

Nearby trails offer some of the best riding terrain in Michigan. Trailer parking in overflow lot available.

Snowshoeing Trout Creek has on-site marked trails for this beautiful and peaceful activity. Ice Skating and Sledding Kiwanis Park, Harbor Springs- sledding hill, space for beginning skiers and snowboarders Petoskey Winter Sports Park- outdoor ice rink and hockey rink with skate rentals, sledding hill; access to the park is free. Pond Hill Farms, Harbor Springs- free sledding for kids of all ages, bring your own sled or some are available for free.

Swimming

Swimming 3 pools at Trout Creek to choose from! Closest beaches are Petoskey State Park, and in Harbor Springs- Zorn Park Beach (west of Harbor Springs Marina) and Zoll Street Beach (dog-friendly)- both on Little Traverse Bay. Lake Michigan beaches are Sturgeon Bay Beach and Good Hart Beach. Other beaches include: • Bayfront Park- downtown Petoskey beachfront with marina, baseball field, playgrounds, and bathrooms. Little Traverse Wheelway passes through here. Access to downtown shops via pedestrian tunnel under US 31. • Magnus City Park Beach- at the end of Lake St. in Pet

Fishing Take advantage of the two stocked fishing ponds in Trout Creek- no fishing license required since it’s on private property. Bear River- downtown Petoskey, spring and fall you’ll find salmon, steelhead, and brook trout. Crooked Lake- in Oden, walleye, smallmouth bass, pike, or perch Burt Lake- walleye, bass, pike, sturgeon Walloon Lake- bass and walleye Lake Charlevoix- walleye, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, bluegills, and rock bass. The Little Traverse Wheelway

Little Traverse Wheelway- www.trailscouncil.org/little-traverse-wheelway/, Over 26 miles of paved path from Harbor Springs to Charlevoix. Hop on at the Pleasantview Rd and M-119 intersection. (parking lot next to Harbor Springs airport entrance) and head north to downtown Harbor Springs or south to Petoskey. Gorgeous scenery and open views of Little Traverse Bay. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy in one of the many small parks and rest stops located every so often.

Bay View Association Trails, Petoskey- 4 miles of hiking/walking trails through woods and marsh Bear River Valley Recreation Area and Walkway, Petoskey- 1.5 mile area runs along and crosses the Bear River.
