Sightseeing

A lovely village 3.2 miles from St David’s on the south side of St David’s Pennisula. There are 3 pubs, some cafes, a couple of artist galleries and a gift shop. If you walk along the Harbour, you will find Trinity Quay and the Solva Boat Club Café. At high tide, it is excellent place for crabbing and for jumping off the Harbour wall!

Strumble is on the North West tip of Pembrokeshire, west of Fishguard. The area is known as Pencaer Peninsula. The focus here is Strumble Lighthouse which is perched on a tiny island. There isn’t any access to the island that the Lighthouse is on but the views are incredible and you can often see seals in the bay below.

Food scene

Porthgain is a small coastal hamlet on the north coast of St Davids Peninsula. Once a small commercial harbour used for exporting stone from the nearby quarry, Porthgain is now a popular destination with a great pub, ’The Sloop Inn’ a super fish restaurant/ take away, ’The Shed’ and a couple of art galleries.

City/town information

St David’s is the smallest city in the UK with a population of 1,600 and was only classified as a city in 1995. The origins of St David’s go back to 5th century when St David himself is though to have lived here. St David’s is lovely for a mooch around, with several nice clothes shops and lots of local food to buy. The centre is only a 7 minute walk from Bishops Court. It has one supermarket, several pubs and cafes. Our favourite pubs are the Farmer's Arms and The Bishops for a pint and some pub food. The Cross hotel in the centre of the square also serves great breakfasts.

The beautiful harbour town of Tenby is 38.5 miles away from St David’s. It’s known for its 13th-century town walls and its stretches of sandy shoreline, including Castle Beach. The ruins of Tenby Castle are on a headland overlooking the harbour. Exhibits at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery include a 16th-century wrought-iron cannon. The Tudor Merchant’s House recreates domestic life in 1500, with a merchant's shop and working kitchen. It's a lovely day trip from St David's.

Thousand Island expeditions run some great local boats trips around Ramsey Island, Skomer Island and Grassholm Island. They provide amazing opportunities to observe a range of coastal bird life, seals, puffins. Some of their trips also give the opportunity to spot dolphins and very occasionally a whale! Some of these boat trips are exhilarating speed boat trips, others are more sedate. The office is in the centre of St David's.
