Hiking/View

A great easy day is to visit Twin Falls (more a walk along a river than a hike) on the way to Sassafras Overlook... want more? Stop at Beech Bottom Falls on the way up or down from Sass (the tallest mountain in SC) for a moderate 2 mile out and back hike!
For a great easy day, stop at twin falls on the way to Sassafras! want more? stop at Beech Bottom Falls (moderate hike 1.7 out/back) before or after enjoying the summit... it’s on the same road near the top on the left going up!

Easy: Carrick Creek (think creek rock hopping & deep woods) & the Lakeside trail are both easy, but technical 2 mile loop trails Hard: Pinnacle (creeks & switchbacks) and Table Rock (steps) Trails 6-7miles out and back Challenge: Hike up Pinnacle, go across the Ridge Trail and come down Table Rock! 11.5 miles but you’ll have hiked our whole front yard view & come back and be amazed at yourself!

Note: Jones Gap requires a parking reservation 48 hours in advance on weekends!!! Easiest trail they have but... Moderate: as far as you can go along the river even if it’s just to Jones Gap Falls & back! It’s all river, moss & rhododendrons... if you go when it’s raining it feels like Ireland!! Hard: Raindbow Falls / Hospital Rock look them up on AllTrails first to see if you’re really up to it! Challenge: Rim of the Gap loop... you’ll be exhausted but grinning 12ish hard core miles + ladders & boulder scrambling

Okay... just want to drive up to an amazing view of the valley behind Table Rock? this is your spot! There’s a small trail to the lower level viewing area... short but technical... kids can do it easy though... the elders might struggle. Moderate but crowded: Raven Cliff Falls... next parking lot down... take cash for parking... stow everything out of sight... we’ve recently heard of breakins at this lot, which is new since Covid. Challenge: Dismal Trail Loop... seriously... check AllTrails first... there are actual warning posters about this one! it’s a doozy, but worth every advil you’ll need later! Same lot as Raven Cliff listed above!

want some great waterfalls & something different? Skip the State Park but head towards it... once you’re mostly up the mountain you’ll see a sign for Isaqueena Falls on your right... you can just hit the overlook or climb down to the lower deck... after go see Stumphouse Tunnel in the same rec area! It’s better with headlamps or flashlights... train tunnel that never was finished... Cash Parking at Isaqueena. Want more? back up at the road you came in on and right across the street to the left is the Yellow Branch Falls parking lot & trailhead! 3 mile out/back easy/moderate but heavy traffic on weekends early in the day
