This is the backyard I grew up in. The old railroad tracks were laid to transport apples from the Upper Valley to Yakima. In the 80's, the tracks came out and a Rails-to-Trails project went in. Follow Cowiche Creek through the canyon. Explore the flora and fauna of the high desert shrub steppe. Note: Watch for rattlesnakes and bring lots of water! The trail can be accessed from the SW corner of the vineyard next door.

Located in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in an old oak grove watered by natural springs, Fort Simcoe was an 1850s-era military installation established to keep peace between the settlers and the Indians.
